These items work like a charm just as i had hoped. Remember to bring extra candles. They are handsome and well constructed.

I did buy aftermarket candles for it....the design is perfect, the heat from the candle/height of the "holder" is between 370-420 degrees (digital thermo), without a breeze. So it will melt butter from cold in about 15 minutes, it also fits a bigger bowl of mine really well, so it keeps my dips warm while I potato in the couch :pNot sure you could heat a pan and fry an egg...maybe with enough time.Yes the heat seems high, but I've had it warming butter for 30-60 minutes, no boiling. I think a lot of the heat is lost through the ceramic bowl.

My dad and I like to get together for a crab boil once or twice a year. We have always microwaved butter and served it in little dishes. It always gets cold and congealed halfway through the meal. THIS BUTTER WARMER ROCKS!!! We had HOT liquid butter to the last crab claw. One suggestion: when the butter got low, it got a bit too hot and the water from the crab getting into the butter started to boil and spit hot butter on us. Either add more butter, which cools it off just enough to keep it from spitting, or blow out the candle and let the residual heat in the dish keep your butter warm at the end of the meal.

We use these all the time for shrimp and lobster. I look for something locally and couldn't find anything of this quality. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a quality butter warmer.
