This was an excellent little puzzle box with sturdy construction and great quality for the price. Subtracted only one star for craftsmanship since the pivot points were a little loose but tight enough to be fully functional. This is well recommended and has a streamlined look and feel

Bought to liven up a paper gift certificate & it was perfect

Before you assume the parts are sticking and force it (which will break it), you should know that there is one more step to solve this puzzle box - you have to turn it upside down and tap it on a hard surface. This apparently moves something inside that you can't see, hear, or feel, but it works. I saw this tip and it saved me from ruining the box by trying to force it, because it gives every appearance of just being stuck. Tap it - maybe more than once - and then it easily slides the rest of the way open. Try it.Once you get the box open with the tap, and you close it up again, if you open it right away, it falls open too easily. But if you knock it around a bit to re-engage the internal mechanism, then it goes back to needing the tap in order to get it open. I really haven't figured out exactly how to re-engage it, but when it sits for a while, gravity seems to do the trick because it always needs the taps.This box comes with no instructions for getting it open. I gave it 4 stars only because I only paid $7.50 for it, and for that tiny price, I can deal with a few imperfections. It is more durable than some that I paid $13.00 for.The box is unfinished but sanded fairly smooth. The first part of the puzzle is too easy because it just falls open, but I will modify the box (maybe adding a hidden magnet or bump click thingy) to fix that. Also, the box is too small for a gift card - it would fit a lipstick or rolled up dollar bills though.

The quality of craftmanship is very poor. The materials are acceptable quality, it looks good. But the lid becomes loose after only 2 times solving it. ThAT'S POOR CRAFTMANSHIP!!

In theory this item would be a clever, fun gift. However, the one I received would jam and not open even though I followed the instructions exactly. Finally I had to use a screwdriver to force the lid into the location where the second part of the lid would open. After that, I then closed the puzzle back and things seemed fine until I tried to open it again. The same problem occurred repeatedly. Finally, part of the top lid broke off and I had to glue it back into place.The item never worked the way it should and ultimately I just gave up. Maybe this one particular item was faulty, but I wasn’t going to order another to find out. I don’t know if others may have had a similar problem or not. A roll of the dice?

This did not come with directions on how to open and I understand why - it took me 2 seconds to figure it out. Not worth the money, especially when it's too small to hold a gift card.
