This is more than a book written for athletes...it's written for everyone.
I do not read a lot of books because it is difficult for me to "connect" with the way a lot of authors write. After 10 pages I lose interest and move on be it right or wrong.. I do, however, LOVE sports and I love analogies that make things easier for me to understand ...I am not a professional athlete... I am not a coach. I'm a business professional. My business brings with it stress, pressure, and high-stake moments just as (I would imagine) athletes face... relatively speaking. At the end of the day we're all human beings with emotions, triggers, etc... The authors wrote this book to apply to athletes but it is much more universal than that... Perhaps that was intentional...perhaps it wasn't.. all I know is that I can't stop referencing this book at work to my team... While I am sure they are getting sick of me talking about a book, I know they will not get sick of my ability to empathize, advise, LISTEN, encourage, and produce.I don't write reviews often and life is too short to lie... If you put a high premium on leading others, managing a team, or producing positive results then pick up this book.If you put a high premium on being successful at whatever you do from Michael Jordan to an running a towing company then pick up this book. Everything is relative... we all get flustered, anxious, compulsive, etc... what we do from there is what separates the great from the good. The authors did a really nice job writing Coaching Athletes to Be Their Best. To all of you readers, just pretend this book was titled Coaching Athletes (or anyone) to Be Their Best... you can thank me later when you finish. I am the person in the back having fun and getting it done.

A wealth of information
As a tennis coach who has coached beginners all the way up to USTA National Champions, this book offers unique ways of getting the most out of a player. The examples of conversational situations in the book bring clarity on ways that I can be more effective with my students in a variety of circumstances. I am looking harder at ways to affirm my players instead of using praise. This book has already changed my conversations outside of sports as well and given me insights that I would not have discovered.

Amazing book for all coaches
Despite having 15yrs + experience in the mental coaching field, I found this book to be incredibly useful. It’s written in an easily digestible manner but has a lot of incredible information. You can’t fail to get better as a coach if you read this book.

Techniques that Work!
This book and the rock star lineup of authors will change how we coach the 21st century athlete. So much has changed, but the principles presented in Coaching Athletes to be their Best: Motivational Interviewing in Sports have proven to be effective with different groups... and now with athletes. This is a must read if you are involved in sport!
