A must have in your privacy toolkit - requires two to work with Apple phones and iPads
You can mute, turn off, not allow -etc etc , but that will not stop someone from listening to your every word! Really - it happens , it happened to me , and utilizing weak security protocols from my FORMER cell provider , my entire identity was stolen by someone access my phone illegally, one they captured my passcodes via my camera and my information thru 24 / 7 ease-dropping, by the time it was discovered it was too late , I would not dare allow anyone to use a phone in my home , or around me without this security key paired with a NFC card - it works and my hackers tried to disable it remotely with no success! I keep extra ones that I let people around me use to keep our passcodes private , at my house you can leave your phone in your car, or use the mic-Locke! Once soneobe gains access to your camera they can see your passcodes or your s keystroke counter to learn it, in real time I was able to screen record a hacker using my user id and passcode, but once I added the NDC card with a second security key , they could not use the passcode alone, they had to have the physical card and key or it would not allow access. A must have for todays AI -black hat hacker world !!! Nite that Apple phone will require 2 keys -at the same time as your must have a backup , a safety measure to ensure you do not lock your self out of your phone - I did not know that until I stated to use , I hope that messengers conveyed , I added a NFC card as my second key .

You may not need a lightning plug for much longer - this one is very expensive for what it is
This one is a bit pricey but it necessary if one still has an older ipad without USB-C. It works well. Apple has finally made their ipad USB-C port compatible with yubikey, I haven't tested that. I have used this key with windows and Mac PC's, as well as with an iphone and it works easily and well. I also own a USB-C NFC and that also works easily, except with an old ipad. You need to have at least 2 keys in case one gets lost, and I recommend that the second key be a cheaper version as you don't need a complete drop-in replacement you just need the backup key to add a replacement key.You should know that using a security key to lock down an apple account means that you lose the ability to ask Apple to unlock your account should you lose your yubikey, which can be a big deal. Other accounts are not as strict and treat the yubikeys as just another second factor. This is a complicated product and I am enjoying getting to learn about using it. Yubico has great support materials on their website and good links to external sites for various accounts and services you might use their key with.Since this version is pricey (about $25 more than the USB-C/NFC one), I would recommend only getting one of these, and then a cheaper different yubikey as a backup. The backup device is only necessary if the first gets lost, and once you replace the lost key you only need the backup on one device to do the task of adding the replacement key to all your accounts. This is a bit cumbersome but hopefully it'll get easier with time.Last thing - this key has it's keyring hole in the center, which works surprisingly well; it sits on my keychain nicely even though I worried it wouldn't.TL;DR - great product but security keys can be "dangerous" and are not for everyone. This one is pricey because it supports an edge use case (old ipads).Edit to add—I also own a USC-C NFC version of yubikey, which is similar to this product but is cheaper. I wanted to add that the lightning/USB yubikey is my favorite form factor as it is much SMALLER and I also prefer the activation mechanism of pinching it instead of touching a metal front.

Protects your Apple ID Password from theft on iPhone
Protects Apple ID Password. This device was easy to implement (see YouTube, iphone security) and will protect you against theft of funds and loss of data from iCloud. This happens when thief watches or videos you enter passcode and then grabs phone from your hand or otherwise steals the phone. Thief, with passcode immediately changes Apple ID password, locking you out of all Apple devices. Has access to passwords in Password Keychain (never use that!) and can get into any banking or cash app used on the phone. You will be forever locked out of iCloud and all contacts, photos, available to thief. This works (tested) on iPhones 8+ and 11 Max Pro. Both use lightening connectors, have not tested usb-C.Apple ID Password can’t be changed without the device. You will need two, keep in different places, in case of loss or failure.DOES NOT WORK FOR USB-C ipad there is no key for iPad Apple ID protection.Safety tips: Protect (hide) passcode, put your hand over phone to shield it like you would at the ATM. use faceID, when it works. And to protect against SIM swaps, put a pin on your SIM. The provider default is ridiculous. Use 8 digits you can memorize. Need to enter this after shutdown at power up.

It’s okay
After having an account hacked and researching ways to make them more secure, I learned about security keys. I feel a lot better about my info along with my accounts for having another way to protect my stuff but I do think that this was on the more expensive side. I wish it was bigger as it can be lost easily. I also wish it came with directions as I am a first timer with security keys. All in all, I recommend buying one if you want more security
