Bought as a gift and he liked it!
My Dad is the hardest person in the world to Christmas shop for, unless you like giving socks. Search for a "toy" to keep him busy and found these. He built the colonial house and said he liked it, hope he did because now he has the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Taj Mahal.

Love this kit...
It's actually my 2nd one. The first got dropped and I was heart broken so I'm building it again. Some of the sticks are a little damaged but they give you plenty to finish the amazing model.

Long live the TAJ
As if this project were not "crazy-hard" enough, my sweetheart, to whom I gave this kit a couple of years ago, decided to reduce the plans and construct it out of paper matches! He is still working on it. In this instance I would rate this as the gift that lasts forever!

Great Concept, Bad execution
This is a tremendous project and there are elements to it that are extremely well done. The transparencies over the blueprints idea is really great for constructing this kit and the blueprints are the strength of this kit. This is a big project that requires a LOT of time. For most people +100 hours. The main drawback of this kit is that they don't really take that into consideration because if they did, they would have anticipated various issues that really make this build a muddy slog. If you want results that reflect the amount of time you put into this project - rather than some slapped together monstrosity by a 13- year old, then you'll have to do some extra purchasing elsewhere. The cutter they provide is useless, you'll need to get another one. The glue is fine. But the biggest culprit is the microbeams. They don't really have good quality control over these. They provide you with plenty but most of the beams are significantly flawed in some way. Many are warped. Some differ in width. Many have chips and other deformities. If this were a small project, it wouldn't be a big deal. But since this kit is 7500 pieces, sorting the beams and fixing/correcting the ones you can really takes a lot of time and kills the fun. Also for this project most of the supports and main structures require pieces longer than the microbeams, so instead of simply dropping down one piece, you have to fiddle with 6 or 7 to get a key support together. For my build I ended up buying precision cut long beams so I could purely enjoy the build as opposed to fixing the various issues with each microbeam. This is a concept that has a lot of great potential and when finished carefully is absolutely a stunner. The problem is that the tools included, in my opinion, impede you from ever finishing. Most will give up. And if you're not very meticulous with the blueprints your end product will look really flawed - burning all the time you invested into it. I would have gladly paid more if each kit provided better cutters and better building materials.
