Please ask Sony for the polling_usb.exe tool which allows you to control the Reader.

Yes, it supports the Proximity API

Q: Will it work with mac os x? i need both read and write. any advice on mac software to operate this device is strongly appreciated.

As long as you have Software on your Mac yes it will work. I use nfc tools, but I'm not sure they have a Mac version
