This is how it works for non windows user's howto, good product!
The only negative is a simple howto, other than that this is a good product for older hardware, it took me several hours as a Linux (non Microsoft) user to figure out how to get this to work without a hitch and it is very simple to do.I read reviews of non Microsoft users with days of problems, the key is if you install a windows partition it just works out of the box.So just simply use a dual compatible partition scheme, its especially easy if you have a puppy linux live cd.STEP 1) Partition 1 = FAT 32 like a GPT setup, but don't put a flag option for esp on the partition, instead the flags should be BOOT & LBA for low block addressing for a CF card (which is needed for a CF card on non Microsoft systems).STEP 2) Partition 2-3 + = swap, ext4, etc..etc..STEP 3) install from a puppy Linux live disk or separate setup > GRUB4DOS to partition 1 & MBR of partition 1, this will have a menu.lst for bootup that points to all other systems on other partitions regardless if Microsoft or Linux, etc..IF installing a system install the boot to that partition but dont change the flags for the fat32 partition, keep BOOT & LBA flags on the fat32 partition, if your new system over writes the fat32 MBR then simply put your disk with grub4dos in and in 30 seconds your back to working order. It took me a while to figure this out with multiple systems, but it works good and does support 128GB cards, a pretty economical way to upgrade and older laptop and the speed, no heat, no noise,is worth the effort.I will keep this marked and order more when needed.I saw some mile long bad reviews that to me showed no investigation or trouble shooting on the user end, but people do expect things to magically work out of the box, especially when they have no warning or directional howto. This product just simply works.

Works great with old PowerPC Macs
I have purchased several of these as a quick and easy way to add flash storage to my old Macs. To put it very simply: this works great for that purpose. Using whatever SD cards I have laying around, I can consistently get 25-30 MB/s read and write, and as one would expect, they're all notably faster than the hard disks that were in the computers, which are between 16 and 27 years old.I noticed an extremely detailed review from January 2021 explaining that the adapter doesn't work with more than one partition, or with Linux, or with GRUB/etc. I don't want to discount that person's experience because they clearly put a lot of effort into it, but I have had absolutely zero problems doing very similar things. I have to assume there was a problem either with the laptop they were trying to use, or with their cloning process (even though they said the cloning process was ruled out) as the adapter doesn't (and can't!) care what the partition layout is, or what's installed on the SD card. And even if it did care, it certainly shouldn't wipe out the partition map if it doesn't like it. I'm not sure if they tried to do a clean install rather than just cloning the existing one, but... that should've been step one, and it would've quickly showed whether or not the problem was with the adapter.I can make as many partitions as I want (and Classic Mac OS creates several very tiny hidden partitions in addition to whatever the user creates, so if there were a problem with partitions, I expect I would run into it immediately) and use whatever OS I want (OS 9, OS X, Linux, BSD.)One might think I'm avoiding whatever the problem was by using it with old Macs, which typically use Apple Partition Map rather than MBR. OpenBSD works, and it uses MBR even on PowerPC, so that's not the case. It, too, creates several partitions. If I encounter problems in the future I'll come back and update this, but in my experience, these adapters are 100% flawless.

Nice alternative for old computer
Used this to help with restoring a PowerBook G3 (Wallsteet). Bit slow but I think that due to SD card. Overall good option.

Fringe use but works great
I bought this more out of ignorance than any real need but I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to use. I do find setting it up to a little finicky. Beginners should look elsewhere

Just works! But watch out for a few thingd
This adapter definitely “just worked” for me. I was able to use a 64GB modern day micro SD card just fine in an 20 year old laptop that originally shipped with Windows XP.Two things to watch out for:Slow writes. Not the fault of this adapter, but most if not all SD, Micro SD and even many CF cards have HORRENDOUS small write speeds. I’m talking down to 300KB-1MB/s or even less. This means any slightly less vintage OS, like Windows XP, will actually be noticeably slower than even the original mechanical hard drive. Read speeds are great so boot times are excellent, but try installing a Windows Update or a Service Pack…. Patience needed there!Mounting adapter and configuration. Some laptops mount their hard drives in funny ways. Be prepared to find or make a bracket to get this adapter to work correctly. And if the laptop has a slide in hard drive caddy, the fit could be fiddly to get the pins to line up.Neither are faults of the adapter, so 5 stars from me. But just watch out if you’re using one for the first time.
