Beautiful Book!
This book is so sweet and it is beautifully illustrated! Several pages open up so it provides some activity and "adventure" for the young reader!

One of the Best
I am a speech pathologist who reads this to children from ages three to eight. The children are soooo impressed with the foldouts and my favorite spot of my day is watching a first time "reader" of the book as the foldouts spread out. The pages with the longest ladder anyone has ever seen knock the kids between the eyes! You HAVE to see their faces!!The spread of the full moon always evokes a reverent "WOW!" from any age child. Their expressions are priceless. This book is a very good book for teaching so many concepts: sizes (as the moon gets bigger and then smaller), long, high. While many of the concepts are abstract for language disabled three year olds, it is an impressive book which will teach other concepts and vocabulary.I agree with another reviewer: this book should be wider known. I had no idea it was such a lovely book until I saw it on display in the teacher's lounge. The display copy was a small board book. Once I saw the potential of this book, I ordered it in the larger, hard cover version. It has been a worthwhile investment.

Toddler loves it so much, she sleeps with it!
My little 2 year old loves this book so much, she'll take it to bed with her! The book is small, a little narrower than a board book, and the pages are regular paper (she's ripped one page, bu that's fixed with tape) but the illustrations are so charming...classic Eric Carle. The ending doesn't really say much, except that the moon grew back (it IS about the cycle of the moon, after all), but I think she likes the thought of Papa going to get the moon for the daughter to play with. I do have to substitute "Daddy" for "Papa" since she calls her grandfather that, and to avoid confusion, but my husband reads it verbatim, and she understands that "Papa" for the story = "Daddy". Charming, charming story, I would recommend it for anyone with a toddler who likes the moon and stars right now. There are pages to open for the full illustration, and a fold-out full moon page in the middle of the story that she likes, but needs help to fold back the right way. Highly recommend!

This edition is small
It’s a wonderful story and quality made but if you have any disabilities or needs, I wanted to show this edition of the book is slightly taller than a 12 ounce soda can.

Not your typical board book
My son loves this book. It’s a classic that I remember from my own childhood. I didn’t know it came in a board book! It’s great to have in this format but I took off a star because it still has the thin and very easy to rip interactive pieces that the normal book version has. I didn’t expect for the board book version to be so easy to damage. The book also doesn’t close together nicely after you’ve opened the full moon fold out page. Overall it’s still a wonderful book and despite the fragile parts I would buy again.

New favorite for my two granddaughters!
The media could not be loaded. This review is for the 8" x 11" board book version: The book itself is sturdy and well made, but the fold-out illustration extensions have been torn and repaired many times, as you might expect for a child's favorite book that has been read and re-read, usually several times each night. Both of the children delight in this book, turning the pages themselves as their father, their mother, or "Pop-pop" ( me ) reads it to them. I thought they would tire of the repetition, but apparently not. It is one of the first books they ask for, and it has been requested countless times. The youngest, just 18 months, will toddle over to the playroom bookshelf, pick this out and bring it to her daddy to read over and over again.Small hands aren't always as careful as they could be with the paper fold-outs, but no lasting damage has been done, so far. A bargain, from where I sit, that has brought so many precious moments with the little ones, especially now that Big Sister is reading it to little sister ( probably from memory more than sight ).Heaven help me if I try to read from memory and get a single word wrong! Big Sister will *immediately* correct me, and tell me the RIGHT word! Gotta love it.

The Most Fascinating Children’s Book
When I retired from teaching 2nd grade, I left all of my children’s books to the teacher who moved into my classroom. I shouldn’t have done that and I missed this book very much. I was shocked at the price since the 3-4 I’ve owned, had signed when Eric Carle visited, and were read by hundreds of children, cost a lot less. Still, it was like seeing an old friend when the book arrived. Such wonder on the faces of my students as I read them the book for the first time and then when they were allowed to “read” it themselves. They were always careful, but I do think a well-loved book probably does need tape from time to time. This one is pristine.
