An Excellent Bedroom Humidifier with NO White Dust!!
This is a really great humidifier! It is super quiet and very easy to clean - the filters are readily accessible and actually wick the water as advertised! I purchased a second unit for the guest room! Very fine product and best of all, no white dust!!

operation cost can rack up
Works without a problem so far. Easy to fill, easy to clean, can feel the difference in the air. All 3 modes are perfect with the lowest setting being barely audible. Just note that with most evaporative humidifiers, the operating cost > ultrasonic humidifiers. There is a UV light inside but it doesn't help all that much since the wicking filters mold up about 1.5 week. Cleaning the humidifier and filter itself does help to prolong the life. This is honestly more preferable than using ultrasonic humidifiers where distilled water is recommended which requires constantly buying supplies for that.

I've bought so many humidifiers. This is the most reliable
Long story, but the takeaway is that I really like this humidifier.I had a white one of these that someone gave me for free. I had no idea what a great thing they'd given me. I liked how it worked, but didn't like that it had a "filter" (really, more of a sponge) and I didn't like how huge it was. So I gave it away and bought a newer-sleeker looking humidifier for myself. My new replacement humidifier was the ultrasonic type (ultrasonic are the other main type of humidifier: they vibrate imperceptibly and the vibrations send a fog of aerosols into the air, which you can see and is pretty). It was compact, it was all black with no blue/white/whatever to make it stand out. I loved it. I loved it for about three months until it broke. The handle came off while I was carrying the water container back from the sink. Water everywhere, gruesome scene. So, I bought another humidifier (my third). Again, it was the ultrasonic type (because those tend to be the cute, compact, black ones). . . and again it broke after a few months. Not so dramatically this time, just quietly started leaking one day (didn't leak when I first refilled it, no. It waited until I'd left the room to begin leaking on an antique table. Oops). So, $150 later, I swore that I would never buy another humidifier again because the whole industry is garbage and all their products will betray you after the return period closes. Bummer.I lived in dry, cracking squalor for half a year before I finally broke down and went looking to buy another humidifier. Low and behold, my old trusty humidifier was back, in black (or nearly so -- the water bin is a blue stripe on the side). Yes, it's large. Yes, it has a filter that you have to replace (less often if you do it right). Yes, you can't see a pretty fog of water coming out of it to prove it's working. But I love it. It's simple, has less moving parts, and doesn't break. My parents have been using one of their own for a year and it's done great by them.Tips:- If there is water in the bottom tray (touching the "filter"--which is actually serving more as a sponge), keep the fan blowing. Don't let the filter sit in water. This will generally prevent the filter from getting moldy, so you won't have to replace it very often.- If there is no water in the bottom of the tray (the water has run out) -- stop the fan. Otherwise the fan heats the filter so much that the filter begins melting. Especially if the fan is on the highest level (I haven't tested, but I think maybe it doesn't get so hot at the lowest level).- This does get a little tough, to hit the sweet spot. It means when I leave the house, I either make sure the water is filled all the way and the fan on or that the water is gone from the bottom tray and the fan is off.- Open it up occasionally and look at the filter. You'll notice that it does yellow a little from when it gets too hot from the fan. I think this is OK. If you check it semi-regularly, you'll be able to see this and know the difference between this and any ick that would require you to replace the filter.- If you use an ultrasonic humidifier, you have to be careful about what surface you put it on because that surface gets a little wet. This humidifier is a mist humidifier, so the effect is slower but its physical reach is larger. So, that means that you can put the humidifier on any surface and it won't get that surface wet.- I use tap water.

Great buy!
The design of this humidifier is simple but practical. I trust Honeywell as a historical brand and it actually works well. And it is quiet. Love it!

Weak performance in cold climates
This unit was unable to increase the humidity in a small bedroom (~200sqft) beyond 25% RH. The humidity in the room is normally around 20% RH depending on furnace use. I did try a few methods to troubleshoot the unit.- Soaked the wick in room temperature water instead of cool water (our cold water can be as low as 50F in winter).- Filled the tank with room temperature water.- Made sure to run the unit for a week continuously on high (except when moving to different areas of the room or during refills).- Placed the unit on a hard surface instead of carpet (in case air intake was blocked).- Tried moving the unit around the room.- Checked %RH near the unit and at the head of the bed using an uncalibrated hygrometer and a calibrated Fluke temperature/humidity meter. (%RH was slightly higher adjacent to the unit by 2-3%).- Checked moist air being vented at the top of the unit with a calibrated Fluke temp/humidity meter and was unable to read beyond 40% RH (description implies that this model can perform well above that).Didn't receive any additional guidance from Kaz, and Amazon won't accept returns for this model which is frustrating (although I did e-mail them about this). It's possible that the unit is not capable of operating in areas with more extreme winter conditions (it's been below 0F outside for a little over a week). My other complaints are that the humidifier significantly cools the space where it is located. The bedroom is normally around 70F, and the temperature would drop to ~65F while the humidifier was running. The temperature of the air leaving the humidifier was measured to be as low as 59F. The housing of the humidifier doesn't latch to the base, so be careful while moving it (hold it by the bottom of the unit or it will just come apart). The tank leaks around the lid. There is a flat spot on the cap threading where it can leak. There is no auto-shutoff if the tank runs out. The fan will continue to spin and dry out the wick, requiring the user to re-soak it.Otherwise to be objective, here are some positives. The filter appears to do a good job of filtering out mineral deposits in the water. Our water is pretty good, and low on minerals or other salts, so I wouldn't expect any issues replacing the filter every 60 days or so. People with hard water will likely need to swap it out sooner. I would recommend checking or requesting a water report if there's concern. If the supplied water is very hard it might become prohibitively expensive to replace the filter every 20-30 days. Cleaning the tank and base were both easy. Cleaning the upper housing assembly seems like it would be difficult (no way to access the fan). It's very quiet on the low setting. High setting is audible, but wasn't any worse than bedside fan.
