Nice Hardware, Ruined By Loud Beeps & Broken English Voice Prompts
Of the various bluetooth boards I've tested recently, this has subjectively offered the best audio quality and the most functionality for its size and cost; but it is fundamentally ruined by the manufacturer's insistence on having everything the board does announced by a very dodgy and unnecessarily verbose 'English' narration. What's worse; certain button presses also result in an EXTREMELY LOUD beep that shatters your eardrums. I should note that this beep is not subject to the volume control; it seems to always be at maximum volume. The USB port on this particular one was soldered at a slight angle; but everything otherwise seems to be correct and working.I didn't realise it when purchasing, but this also has an FM tuner built into it as one of the playback sources.Just like the Makerhawk boards, this seems to perpetually be in open pairing mode and doesn't require a code to pair, which may be good or bad depending on your use case. Also like those boards, volume control is distinct from that of the connected device, so it doesn't send volume control commands to the device; it has its own volume level (presumably on the DAC itself).Audio quality is good for these devices; no audible noise floor and minimal compression artifacts. Good power for driving headphones: but this is design more for driving an amplifier within a DIY speaker project. This board does what it advertises for very little money; but I can't use it for the intended project because of the completely unnecessary voice prompts and excessively loud beeps. These might not be a problem for your use case. Not a product I'd recommended; but still good value. Hopefully the manufacturer will do a version without the voice/beeps in the future.
