Never failed me
I use this amazing auto pilot since 1982. Of course I buy the new model every now and then, when I change my boat. I can only tell good things for this piece of equipment which I strongly suggest everyone to buy. I sail most of the summer sailing at least 1,000 miles every summer. This magnificent pilot, will hold my 26 footer under the worse weather conditions in one of the most challenging seas on this glob, East Med and the Aegean Sea. Whoever sailed these waters, knows very well what I am talking about. Thank you AUTOHELM /RAYMARINE

Arrived FAST worked no problem
We had an older version more like the ST1000 but older without the LCD display... after 15+years and salt water issue the board failed. The new version ST2000 installed the same all the old mounting points still worked etc. Usage very much the same. Didnt calibrate it, it just worked, technically we will calibrate it one day. Mostly we use it when motoring down the river to the bay, makes it easy to put up sails etc. It works fine while sailing, but we havent tried it with more than 15knots of breeze.

Pretty good. Short lifespan in salt air
Works okay in ocean conditions except offwind on a heavy day, when waves confuse it...removing power saving helps a bit. Make sure to calibrate where there is no interference...so not in a busy harbor. Be very careful if messing with the other settings...default may be best. 1st one of these I bought in 2016 and it lasted until 2020. 2nd one I bought in 2020 and it lasted till 2023. Will probably now buy a third. Sigh. Definitely need the st2000 over the st1000 for my catalina 27.

Unreliable. Don't buy!
Failed after less then one year of use. Opened unit and found two unsoldered transistors inside (see photo). Contacted Raymarine. They said unit is discontinued and they no longer support. Product listing says it is NOT discontinued - false advertising. Waste of money. Contacted seller. Refused to support.

Works as advertised
This is the first such auto-steerer I have ever had and I was a bit skeptical that it would do what I wanted. But on a whim and a hope I designed and added an auxiliary rudder to my 35' motor-sailor to use with this device. After the device arrived I had enough details to also add an anchor location for the control end. This was very easy to do, the offered (extra) parts are not at all required - make you own if you get this tiller pilot. The pilot is simple enough to use, following a quick glance at the operating instructions. It was easy to set up and calibrate following the instructions. It takes little power and doesn't hunt a lot. I am impressed. It steers better than I do when under power. Under sail you do need to be careful to get the balance right otherwise the tiller does work harder in wave and or gusty wind conditions.I now use it as my main source for steering ... I set the main rudder for balance, then use the standby mode on the tiller pilot to steer, and once I get to the desired course, engage autopilot. This frees me to do other tasks on the boat. I now wish I would have purchased and installed this 20 years ago.The compass heading indicator on the tiller pilot is nice to see for corroboration, but not a real necessity. I run vhf and hf amateur radio rigs on my boat .. I have not seen any interference issues at all. This was tested during our last Field Day a few wees ago - I could see no signs of interference from the tiller pilot to the radio or from the radio to the tiller pilot, even though the control lines for each were only about 5' apart and parallel for about 6', and the base of my transmitting antenna was about 4' directly above the tiller pilot.Wishes - it would have been nice to have an on/off switch integrated into the provided wall plug. That is it. One happy customer here.

Raymarine quality is questionable.
Supposed to be a fantastic bit of kit but the fittings are rubbish. Specifically the power socket. My suggestion throw the supplied plug and socket away and buy a good one before you go to the marina to fit the Raymarine tiller pilot to your boat. Very good chance you’ll be stripping threads and screwing off screw heads very quickly if you use the rubbish supplied by Raymarine. Why sell a $600 tiller pilot and supply it with the cheapest cheap plug and screws? Considering my experience with the plug I now have grave doubts about the quality or the rest of the machine parts and how long they’ll last. That said, once you’ve got it set up and going, my sailing club mates reckon having a tiller pilot is well worth the price and effort. But, big question about Raymarine quality.

Good price
This is my third ST2000+, and I love them. My first one has hundreds of hours on it and is now my spare unit, it still works OK. I foolishly bought a used unit from the auction site, the seller lied about its condition....the drive screw was trash. This one was a good price, arrived promptly and works good. I am a singlehander, these units are better and cheaper than crew.
