The components are sturdy and so far I am very pleased with this
This paper cutter works well and cuts accurately if you take time to learn how to use it. The components are sturdy and so far I am very pleased with this.Pro Tip I got from my brother who is a metal worker - when setting the measurement hold the bar close to the end where it screws tight. Holding the far end - which was my natural first inclination - results in the bar being not at a right angle as it should be. This was causing me frustration. Holding it snugly up by the screw makes ALL the difference!

Cuts poorly out of the box.
Straight from the box, this thing was junk. I expected much more for the money. The first few cuts should have been an indication of things to come. It wouldn't cut squarely, was tearing paper, and wouldn't cut the last few sheets at the bottom of the stack. I talked to customer service (It's a two-man operation in customer support) and was basically told "sorry" and it's not a warranty issue because the blade dulls over time. Sure, the blade dulls over time. But the label on the product says after 1000 cuts. It was doing this brand new out of the box. As for the squareness, I was told that I had to find a known square and to adjust the cutter. Shouldn't this be adjusted AT THE FACTORY? To top it off, the clamp kept jamming and small metal shavings kept fall out. The seller worked with me and accepted a return. Maybe I got a defective unit? But my concerns seem to echo some of the other concerns other reviewers have noted.

I am told you cannot sharpen the blade you have to buy a new one once it is dull.
Keep up on the maintenance and it last for many years. The only problem is that, I am told you cannot sharpen the blade you have to buy a new one once it is dull.

Cuts, just not accurately
I was really excited about this cutter. True to it's word it cuts stacks of paper, only trouble is the guides don't form a 90, so all my cuts are off. This sucked, kind of defeats the purpose.

They Screwed up the Latest Version
I used this same cutter for 25+ years at my manufacturing company without a problem and I used at least 3 of them over all of those years. The latest one now includes a snap ring that keeps you from overtightening it, and it came loose after less then 3 months of ownership.Martin Yale sends you instruction to fix it yourself, and you have to take it apart to reconnect a snap ring with a pair of snap ring pliers. Too complicated for something that I paid at least a few hundred dollars for that always worked fine before.Martin Yale said it was my fault for tightening it down too tight, but I never had a problem before like this and I don't tighten the clamp on the paper too tight. Just enough to keep a stack of paper in place.
