Neither! Look at it closely and you will see that the cylinder is actually all part of the molded plastic form. These are designed to be safe visual illustrations of various types of firearms, and they are the exact size so a person can feel if things like the grip and trigger distance fits their hand ... all while being perfectly safe ... even if the person points it at another person! If you want to demonstrate operation you would need the real thing!

Is this an exact replica in size and surface features? I buy and sell used holsters and would use it to demonstrate what fits what.

It is a replica to fit the real scale of the firearm it is based on. For training purposes or a prop, the one I bought was only off by 1-2mm from the real firearm. But it is still a good prop for the costumes I use. So it should work fine for what you need it for. Hope this was helpful
