Q: Could his motor be used to make a rotating solar system for my daughter school project (4th grade)?

It would probably work. I would consider reinforcing the two plastic mounts in your application. I think it spins at about 3 or 4 rpm. I use mine to spin a color wheel for some fiber-optic lights. Works great for that. It seems like it has plenty of torque.

If you were to purchase a battery holder, a 9v lead or a battery lead from the r/c world. The motor is designed to run on 12v so I can’t say how well it would work on 9v.

Q: How much noise does this motor make? Can it be heard in a quiet room?

At no-load it is virtually silent. At full load it is audible a few feet away but still very quiet. It depends on what you're powering. My main issue was with the shaft diameter - it is 6mm not 4 as advertised. I had to bore out my drive pinion to fit.
