Keep your old hinge rod, as the replacement will not lock on as securely
The chute itself seems to be exactly like the original chute on my 2004 X304 mower.The springs are different, but the newer versions are better than the old. On the new version the arm that rests on the mower deck to provide tension ends with a circle of wire instead of a straight wire. The circle lets you use a small screw driver to swing the spring into the tension position when installing, and you are less likely to be stabbed.The chute hinge rod is different, and the newer version is worse than the old, and is the reason this is a three star review instead of a five star review. The old rod has a 1/16" wide slot 1/4" from the end of the rod. The round retaining clip locks into this slot and there is no way that the clip will come off.On the newer version of the rod there is no slot and it uses the same style of locking clip. So the new rod relies on friction between the clip and the rod to keep it on. If it comes off, you will eventually lose the springs, hinge rod and chute.
