is this product carcinogen/ creosote free?

Check out the Bickmore.com site. Pine tar is generally used for hoof care in horses and Bickmore chooses their words very carefully. They have a few questions/answers on their site that may be helpful. I thought this one was applicable...Q: Does Pine Tar contain Creosote?A: We cannot guarantee that our Pine Tar is creosote free because creosote is an inherent part of the process of making pine tar. Our pine tar is produced in closed tanks, not kilns and is made from a blended product of a variety of different pines. Our pine tar is veterinary grade and is made to be used on horse's hooves. We do not recommend our Pine Tar for any type of human use, including soap making.

Is this pine tar creosote free? I'm looking for pine tar I can make pine tar soap with.

Laura, Thank you for contacting us. This Pine Tar is in fact Creosote Free. However, we do not advise to use this product in any products that are used by humans. Please do not use in soaps, lotions, gels, excreta. As it states on the label of Bickmore Pine Tar, "For use on non-food animals only. Not for human use".It is to be used on horse hooves and sometimes can be used on wood to help retain the moisture in the wood. Again, we do not advise it to be used on humans.

Can this product be used to seal the outside of a boat?

yes, pine tar is used a lot in the maritime trade

Do you apply it to the underside of the hoof? It says it's a fungicide.

Good morning Sandra, I would recommend a call to your vet for that question. My experience with pine tar is applying it to sore spots on sheep and dog's ears where the flies have gathered and bitten the skin raw. We used it as a fly repellant. I was not aware of it's fungicidal properties. Keep in mind, it's sticky as all get out, so on the bottom of the hoof may complicate things as it'll pick up all sorts of dirt, etc. If you have a boot to put on the hoof, keep in mind, it may adhere to the pine tire somewhat permanently. I'd probably use some gauze or other biodegradable rag/cloth to stick to the pine tar, thus allowing a boot to come off easier and to keep dirt out of the tar.
