It's Dune, not Star Wars, so expect a slow burn with grand visuals and political intrigue.
I was reluctant to watch this series because of some negative reviews, but after committing to a viewing I really enjoyed it.I do think the timeline of 10,000 years before Paul Atreides is a little extreme (the technology seems to be on the same level as Dune 2019), but this is based on a 2012 Brian Herbert book (Sisterhood of Dune) and apparently that's how it was written.HBO spent some serious money on this series, and it shows in every scene. Gorgeous sets, costumes and visual effects put this show right up there with the level of detail seen in the Dune films. The acting is solid and there are some genuinely intense moments here.Thankfully the show is not just about the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood as I don't think they are interesting enough to carry an entire series. There's a lot going on in the sidelines with the Desmond Hart character, which should keep male Dune fans interested in the story as well. The plot is slow burn, but if you stick with it there is definitely some world-building and cool character development (as well as a few creepy moments that border on horror).I'm not a Dune expert outside of the first three original books, but I really enjoyed this series for what it is. And perhaps I'm just craving ANYTHING Dune after the excellent Denis Villeneuve films, but that's alright too because I love this world and enjoy spending as much time in it as I can.

a slow paced drama.
Six episodes. First three or four are slow paced, complicated, some what boring. Little action. Episodes five and six lead you to believe some exciting stuff is coming. The excitement and action doesn't pan out, although these last two episodes were better than the first four. I had to snap out of falling asleep several times while watching. There was some good and impressive filming for the series. They included a bunch of flashbacks without telling you, so you have to figure it out on your own. Not a big deal. In the end you are somewhat let down by the ending, wondering if there is a season 2 to explain more.

Masterpiece
Watched it four times and each time gets better. If you pay attention to details and dialogues you will be mind blown. Not recommended to Hollywood blockbuster and Disney fans. For those who strive for something different.TV that demands thinking rather than shallow consumption
