Rock solid guitar stand
The media could not be loaded. Please read my whole honest review.Upon my unboxing of the Starfish+ I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be for a couple reasons, and I had thoughts about returning it right away. However, I gave it some time and the concern's I had were resolved to my satisfaction (And I'm very picky).Let's start with what the concerns I had upon the unboxed; The first concerned issue I had was with the closing mechanism for the neck of the guitar. Upon unboxing and testing the mechanical motion of the locking neck holder with my hand, it wasn't a very smooth operation at all as it would frequently bind up if not perfectly centered on it when applying pressure to activate it. However, after testing it with an actual guitar, I now recognize it moves smooth as butter without any indication of any binding up. I'm not concerned at all about this issue any more, but I wanted you to at least be aware of it.The second issue I had after unboxing it was with a piece around the main post which was completely loose and just floating/sliding around on the shaft. Clearly a quality control oversight. After looking more closely, I can tell where this piece should be attached, and with a good deal of pressure I was able to firmly press fit it into its proper position. Again, as with the first issue I'm not at all concerned about this now that it's secured, but you deserve to informed about it.Both of these issues can be seen in my photos and video. However, I strongly suggest you continue to read and don't hold my initial discoveries against the Starfish+.After taking the Starfish+ to my music room and press fitting the lose piece back into its proper position, I started testing the locking neck mechanism with actual guitars and quickly realized how smooth the locking mechanism actually works with a guitar. There's no binding and it operates smooth as warm butter. While during my unboxing, I wasn't as impressed as I had thought I would be, but now that everything has been resolved, I'm completely satisfied. The build of the Starfish+ is extremely heavy duty, and I have no concerns about it breaking or bending at all. And the stability of the Starfish+ guitar stand is in a realm of it's own, way more stable than anything else I've tried. I honestly cannot describe in words how incredibly super stable this guitar stand is, let alone how durable it is.That said, bear in mind that with the incredible durability and heavy duty build of the Starfish+, it inevitably is heavier than any other stands I've tried. Personally, I don't see that as a negative and see it as a positive attribute because the added weight contributes to better stability. When it comes to protecting your expensive guitar, this stand has no compromises, and you shouldn't compromise in protecting you guitar.Aside from a minor quality control issue, I would say the only minor negative attribute with this stand in comparison to other locking guitar stands would be the fact the locking mechanism is noisier. That said, it's not an issue with me because when I'm performing it only makes noise when removing and inserting a guitar, and it's really not that intrusive. In fact, it's kind of grown on me because when I hear it I know it's locked in secure. If you're looking for a super heavy duty and highly stable guitar stand, I highly recommend you get the Starfish+. If you don't want the noise of the locking mechanism, you can always settle for the regular Starfish and still have the most durable and the most stable guitar stand available.

Hands down the best guitar stand
I now own 4 of these. You cannot tip them over. I mean seriously....if you intend to knock them over they will fall. Otherwise, they will not tip over. Extremely stable. The costs reflects the quality.

Best stand I've ever owned
Awesome! Whether I'm playing my guitar or bass, this stand is great for either. No worries about stability. The starfish lives up to its name and reputation.

My Second Starfish
I got this model without the locking head. I already have one with the locking mechanism. Great stands, heavy duty, stable, easy to use and trust. They fit my Taylor acoustic great. The fit on my two 000 12 frets is a little tight, not to mention I use a strap string under the nut on those. They have a slightly wider neck, which I prefer for most songs. The fit is snug and easiest way to remove the guitar is twist it slightly as you pull it out. Even with that, it's the best stand I have used and the only stand I now use.

A great product with a design flaw and packaging issues
I really wanted to love this product. But, in the end, I had to return the first item due to damage and the second because of a design flaw I can't live with.PACKAGINGThe box is too small to ship this product as a single unit. There are imprints inside the box where the stand and box contact each other. The stand should be supported by the packing material and not contact the external container in any way.I don't think the styrofoam is a sufficient shipping material. Not only is it a waste (i.e., can't recycle, doesn't biodegrade) but the first stand I received some damage partially due to the styrofoam breaking under the stress of shipping. I would prefer to see D&A use the fibrous, cardboard like material used to package many electronics nowadays.Additionally, the box is not sealed. The box design itself isn't horrible, but the tabs are insufficient, in and of themselves, to hold the box together during shipping. One of the box ends came open during shipping of my replacement order. The box should be sealed.DESIGN FLAWThe base is designed in such a way, when the legs are folded, they come in contact with the bottom of the center of the stand. This leads to compression of the foam that wraps the front legs, damage to the finish on the two side legs, and damage to the rubber foot on the rear leg. This is unacceptable for a stand that is expected to be folded and transported between locations many times throughout its life. This design flaw is even more frustrating because the rest of the stand is designed so well.STURDINESS/BUILDThe stand is rock solid. Overall design (flaw listed above excepted), build, and materials are all top notch. The stand held my Sterling by Music Man JP150 solidly, without issue. There is almost no movement when you nudge the stand to test the sturdiness, even when applying a significant amount of pressure. I purposefully leaned the stand with the guitar far past where I would expect it would begin to fall, yet it came right back on its feet. The only "weak" direction I found was pushing directly from the rear toward the front. As the guitar comes away from resting on the front legs, there is a point a little sooner than the other directions where momentum would take the guitar forward. However, this point was still at a significant lean, much more than is likely to happen during normal use, and wouldn't happen unless the stand was in the middle of the room where it could be bumped from the rear.In the end, I could't live with the way the legs contact the base when folded. I am disappointed because the stand is incredible otherwise.
