A machine designed for business users
I bought one of these without fully understanding what it was. The smartcard reader turns out to be something used in business for security purposes to restrict access to the machine to the right people, so it has no utility for normal people (and you don't need to use it). On the other side is a docking port which is again of some special kind used in business to reduce the number of wires you connect into it. The SIM card slot presumably enables you to connect the to the internet via a mobile phone network directly instead of using your phone as a hotspot. It's a specialist machine made to high standards of robustness, and it was never intended for normal home use, though fortunately it suits that role pretty well too. This explains why it's in such good condition as it's clearly never been used significantly, if at all. My research says that the strange little metal square near the cursor keys is a fingerprint reader, which I wasn't expecting it to have.I'm glad I gave it a go, and I won't be sending it back. It isn't a touchscreen machine, but my previous computer was and I hardly ever touched the screen, so I don't mind that lack. I just wanted something affordable to use when support for Windows 10 ends, but I also needed a machine with a 64-bit processor to handle Godot (a game engine which I want to use to build simulation software) and for 3D printing software (which I need for designing components for musical instruments). The speakers are Bang & Olufsen, and have decent volume. The most significant lack with the machine is a card reader as that would make it easier to extend the amount of storage without having anything stick out of a USB port, but I can put up with that for the low price, and it probably has enough storage to keep me going until Windows 11 becomes obsolete anyway. There's certainly plenty of RAM and processing power, so this will hopefully handle all my needs for another five years. I like the trackpad design with the buttons at the top. The screen's good too, and the keyboard is comfortable to use. I don't have high expectations of the battery as it'll be old, but I'll be using it plugged in 99% of the time anyway. It charged up okay and should be good enough to take it round the house to show people things of interest that come up on social media, and it should also last long enough to give me plenty of time to shut things down if there's a power cut.I'll come back and edit this if there's anything to add, but I felt the need to review it promptly as the quality impressed me. I wasn't expecting that for the low cost, but given the kind of customer it was originally made for, it now makes full sense.

So far, so good.
Reviewed after one week so only time will tell how it stands up to use over time. An excellent, quite fast laptop in really good condition, much more than able to cope with everyday use. Generous storage. Only two USB ports, and I'm guessing USB 2, because they are black rather than blue, so four stars rather than five. Arrived promptly and well packaged in an HP box. Very good value

Like brand new. Trust refused.
Not knowing much about laptops it took me a long time to decide which one to buy. After reading reviews I chose this one.I am so glad I took the risk buying a refurbished instead of new. I didn’t have much money to spend but what I have got is unreal. I am so pleased with the quality it’s like brand new. The speed and storage is just what I wanted. I have had to get office so I can open word and stuff I needed.Anyway it’s perfect and I am very pleased.

Audio does not work
Item arrived on time, still smells of alcohol which means it got cleaned, fine. Still adapting at the moment, but major issue is audio does not work - I spent a couple of hours trying to figure out the issue, but the system does not recognize the built-in speakers and HP does not seem to support drivers for this laptop anymore on this version of windows. Will try a bit more but if I fail I will return it

Quality machine for reasonable money.
We wanted a Core i5 laptop for my son to help with his GCSEs (and no doubt some gaming) and found this refurbished HP machine on Amazon Marketplace. It looks like new, everything works as it should, battery life seems acceptable and the metal chassis will hopefully take some abuse. One thing to note is that the charger provided is a 3rd party one, not genuine HP. 5 weeks in, we are very happy :-)
