Q: Does it replace model #ACSCTG type 1

From Genie site:Compatible with all Genie openers produced since 1995. I will tell you I had no issues setting it up to my old Genie opener I installed around 2001. So yes my remote was the larger Black one with single grey button ACSCTG Type 1. This one works fine but I have a wooden door with regular wooden garage connected to home. I tend to believe its weeker signal gets interupted by metal garage/doors. Its only about the size of a key fob witch is great but I must be within 70ft of my door to open it....Its small size makes it worth that to me.

Q: Does this come with instructions for programming?

Yes it did come with instructions. They are simple. I opened the light cover of the garage door opener and found a program button. If I remember right, you press it, a light beside it blinks, you press the garage door remote, and the blinking stops. That was it. It started opening the garage door right away. Was really simple. The hardest part was getting the garage door light cover off.

Q: Just curious to know if anyone having range problems has changed the battery. This problem usually indicates low battery power.

I've had the same opener about 20 years (came with new house purchased in late 1996), and the remote is about 7 years old. But I only recently started having range problems. Changing the battery did not help. And it's intermittent - some times it'll open before I reach the driveway, other times I have to be right in front of the door and have to press it a few times before it opens. Holding the button longer doesn't help, either. I guess I'll just get this new remote and hope for the best.
