Super price for a great basket-lining gardening product
I was really concerned when the little bale first arrived because I was concerned it would be too mulch-like. It was not. I've used bales of peat moss in the past so I knew of its expansion properties once it was soaked in water for 10 minutes or so. True to the advertisement and product literature it doubled or tripled in volume. I bought it to reline the tops of 9 hanging baskets that the birds have used to line their own nests. It was sufficient to re-line the top few inches of my 9 baskets hanging around our porches, plus it did 2 other baskets in our yard that were nearly empty of moss. I'm ordering another bale to finish the remaining basket(s) in our yard and to have the necessary materials to repair the baskets on an ongoing basis. Once the moss is in place it holds the potting mix perfectly, allowing wonderful drainage, yet helping to preserve moisture, too. And the birds really appreciate the soft, natural nesting material, too, I'm sure, giving a sanitary base before lining their nests with our horses' tail and mane hairs. Posh life, these nestlings! :-)

Smells like excrement and horror
I bought this in a pinch because the good stuff I ordered for my propagation box was delayed, and I needed something fast. Next day delivery was great, but now I know why they were so quick to get it out the door. Upon opening, the bale had a musty, horse barn-like odor. I didn't think too much of it at the time, but as soon as it started absorbing water, that musty smell turned into a full-house penetrating stench. It was like Taco Bell's revenge. It was like the Bog of Eternal Stench. It was like a end of Summerfest season port-o-potty that had been forgotten to bake in the sun for weeks. Because it was in the plastic bin for my plant cuttings, I didn't realize at first where the smell was coming from. I blamed the cat. Then I blamed the dog. Then I blamed the pipes. And then I opened the lid, and omg I almost passed out. Thank god it's coviding out (never thought I would say that) because I have super heavy duty filtering masks that reduced the stench while I scooped it out of the bin, dry heaving the whole time. It immediately went into the dumpster, double-bagged so it wouldn't leak it's stench-water all over the house. It was only 64º that day, but I opened ALL the windows as wide as I could, sprayed room spray, and lit about 12 candles while apologizing to my pets for thinking they could produce such a horrid stench. I would rather kill all my fancy plants than use this stuff again, and I'm a Millennial. You know how we are with the Thai Constellation Monsteras and Pink Princess Philodendrons. Save yourself. Get a better sphagnum moss.

Good quality
Saw negative reviews about sticks and dust but what I got was just fine. Biggest detriment was the quantity. Price of all sphagnum moss has risen precipitously. This was a pretty small package, but it was good quality. I found one stick in the entire bundle, and it was tiny. If it were less expensive, I would have given it five stars.

Dirty and a hassle to clean
It took a lot of time, mess, and clean-up to clean and dry the moss. Consider that when purchasing it, especially considering the result is not a huge amount of moss.

Stops Mr. Snuggles from digging in the potted plants!
Boykitten Mr. Snuggles has finally discovered digging in the potted plants at five months old. I don't mind the bare soil look, so prior to being acquired by Mr. Snuggles my several large houseplants had naked dirt. That is until I had to vacuum that naked dirt out of my carpet for the third time after boykitten learned the digging. That's when I sought out SuperMoss. This mini-bale is a miracle worker! It's a reasonable cost for the volume, contains quality loose moss pieces that when wetted fluff up to several times the compressed volume, shows a bit of green, and is easy to arrange covering all the enticing naked dirt so appealing to Mr. Snuggles. My carpets and the roots of my houseplants are now saved from boykitten ravages! Mr. Snuggles has no interest in digging through two inches of moss and I am now also spared the embarrassment of naked dirt in my home. Thank you SuperMoss!
