VTX works good for ground robot applications
This is a review for the Yoidesu 1.2GHz VTX, 1.6W Video Transmitter Module, 1.2GHz Frequency Band.I ordered the VTX to use on a ground robot application for a work project. I needed a decent VTX that would penetrate a little better than 2.4GHz, and this one fit that need. I plan to use the robot to go into forested areas at a long distance. I used a cheap analog receiver and Foxeer analog camera, which works without much fuss. I used the splitter cable for FPV RC Truck applications and a couple of other workarounds to adapt to my application. I am a bit concerned about heat dissipation since this is on a ground robot and not an aerial drone, so I may add a fan to the robot to help with cooling. It did a walk-through range test, and it managed to penetrate deep enough into the forest for my application, around half a mile. I used the antenna that came with the VTX. Of course, there isn’t much foliage since it’s wintertime, so summer results may vary. This was also a pretty flat area.The value of this VTX is about the same as others you’d find, but maybe on the high side. Also, in the U.S., you are supposed to have a HAM radio license to broadcast on 1.2GHz. Most people don’t, but just something to be aware of if you are using this for work or business.
