Complete Anglican Hymns Old and New
I bought this hymnal as it's the standard one in use in my parish. I am currently training for Licensed Lay Ministry and found myself at a disadvantage with other students who all seemed to have their own particular versions of a hymn book. And as I am now at the stage of planning services of the word, it's important to have to hand the appropriate hymn book in use in our context to be able to insert hymn numbers into service sheets. As a book in comparison to other versions that I have access too - it's modern and has most hymns that we use. But there are some omissions that occasionally cause loose leaf hymn sheets to be used. Overall a good buy

Very complete for the money
Practically exhaustive list of almost a thousand hymns with full music notation and lyrics. Excellent however one complaint is that although there are hymn numbers, there are no page numbers and some hymns span two or more pages.Paper is also quite thin and probably not difficult to rip by mistake.

A perfect companion for any church choir singer.
This is a fantastic full music version of the hymn book which any choir singer needs if they are singing any of the well-known and lesser-known hymns of Christian worship. Sturdy yet not too heavy to hold. Brilliant!

Useful hymn book
I ordered this hymn book because I sometimes play the organ at a church which uses it. It has a good selection of traditional and modern (e.g. graham Kendrick, Iona) Anglican hymns. I like the fact that some of the tunes are transposed into slightly lower keys, so that they rarely go above a high D. I don't like the fact that some of the words of traditional hymns have been 'updated'. The layout is good, with the music in a large font, although the accompanying words are quite small. Overall, I prefer it to 'Common Praise', which covers similar ground.

Five Stars
Received ysterday by mail. A good collection of hymns and other songs of the Church of England. Some of them is also regularly used into the Roman Catholic Church. Many Thanks!

An opportunity missed
PROS:For £24.99 it is good value for money with plenty of resource material. The indeces are quite comprehensive.CONS:Wafer thin pages, I would happily pay a little more for this to be printed on slightly more substantial paper.Needless musical editing - 'if it ain't broke - don't fix it'. Some perfectly good established harmonies and arrangements have been replaced with ones by the Mayhew team, some of which are a little bizarre to say the least.Sadly the usual PC tinkering of words and gender neutralisation.Sadly the usual downward transposition of well-known hymns in keys that were perfectly accesible and singable.A great shame the hymnal is alphabetically ordered rather than liturgically and thematically, this makes for heavy going when selecting material to use Sunday by Sunday. The 'opportunity missed' is that this resource does not stand on its own. You need your old hymnals to:- source standard hymn tunes in established keys that don't have Altos and Basses grovelling inaudibly- reference the proper and familiar words- play harmonisations and arrangements that have not be 'Mayhewed'
