2:1 RO filter, and pretty too!
The media could not be loaded. This is the initial setup review of the Pureplus 800 GPD (.5 GPM) undersink/countertop RO filter. We just set it up yesterday, and setup took all day (but only because we had stupid problems related to old janky adapters on adapters 70s plumbing). The actual Filter system and faucet were pretty easy to setup. We needed all the included accessories, a couple of wrenches and a 1/4 inch drill (for the drain). Everything else was (pretty much) plug and play. Just make sure to plug the plastic "pex" tubing in far enough that they jam past the silicone seals (see video).--THE SCENARIO--The well water at my mom's house has gotten very cloudy from lime... especially when it rains. It got so bad that my mom got kidney stones. Also, she has cats, and kidney stones will KILL a cat! So, nobody wants any of that to happen!I insisted that we install either an RO filter or an electrolytic deionizer. Upon dorking around amazon for a while, i determined that electric 800 GPD under-sink RO filters are about the best bang for your buck at around the $200 mark. I liked the looks of this one, so, this is what we got.--FILTRATION QUALITY--Given the starting water quality (extremely cloudy, mostly from limestone/calcium salts), the filtration quality is excellent (so far)!Internally, the machine has 2 filtration units. One houses a composite Polypropylene(PP)/Carbon filter, and the other contains a .0001 micron* Reverse Osmosis membrane. The included faucet can output directly from the Composite PP filter stage or from the subsequent RO filter stage. When the faucet is in RO mode, it displays the Total Disolved Solids in parts per million(PPM), on a little screen. Right now it has been hovering around 10-20 PPM. There is no readout from the PP filter stage, unfortunately, and we don't have a TDS meters, but a visual inspection shows that both filters significantly clear the water. (see photos and video)It should be noted, that one really shouldn't drink completely pure water directly (this can cause your kidneys to leach remove too many minerals from your bloodstream). So, for drinking you probably wanna fill up your glass mostly from the RO stage, and just give a splash of water from the PP stage (or a pinch of pink salt).(*for the record: a micron is the same thing as a micrometer or 1 millionth of a meter)--SYSTEM INSTALLATION--The system itself is pretty straightforward to install. it has a little T-Valve which screws in to the cold water supply for your sink. You have to drill into your drainpipe (which is hopefully plastic) in order to install the RO-reject water outlet, other than that, there are horse-shoe quick-connect fittings and PEX tubing for everything else.We had trouble with the myriad adapters that and ended up under the sink from 70s and 90s janky-ness, but everything that came with the Pureplus system was easy to work with, and the included accessories were thoughtful and we used all of them. Our only issue was with the included power supply (which we are replacing ASAP). The plugs are hard wired on either end, and there wasn't enough room to stick them behind the countertop; so for now, we just have an extension cable running into the front of the cabinet....--EFFICIENCY--As far as water efficiency goes, this is about the best you can do right now (at least at this pricepoint...?). The RO filter yeilds 2 parts pure water for 1 part reject water. That is much better than what you would find a few years ago with a passive system (which would give 1 part pure water for 4 or 5 parts reject water). This is great from a water conservation standpoint. The energy efficiency of this system has room for improvement, but that is only because of the included external power supply, (which is a cheap transformer/rectifier/regulator setup). It draws 2.5 amps from the wall (so thats maybe 250 watts or so @ AC 110V), but it outputs only 24V/4A (96 watts). That is an abysmal (but common) efficiency of maybe 40 percent. We can do much better! The Pureplus says on the tin that it needs 90watts @ 24V (It will only use this much when the pump pressurizing the RO filter is active). After dorking around on Amazon for a bit more, I found a waterproof, switching power supply which claims to draw only 1.03 amps from the wall (so maybe 115 watts), and will output 100 watts (@24V). This is a much better efficiency, so, if you are an efficiency nerd, maybe you'd like to check it out:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CXT46HGP^^I haven't installed it yet, but it should be fairly straightforward. The only thing is the barrel jack on the Pureplus is a nonstandard size. I BELIEVE it is 5.5mm length and 2.5mm inner diameter... (i will update once i install the new power supply)--THE COMPETITION--Basically, a unit like this blows away the competition in the undersink water deionization space.UNDERSINK TANK RO:--Comparable passive tank-based systems are much more bulky and waste a ton of water, and cost about the same.AQUARIUM RO:--You can save money by getting 50-100 dollar passive RO system (like the ones intended for aquariums). These still waste a ton of water, and you will have to fill up a 5 gallon jug or 2 at a time in order to use it. (still much better than going to the machines at the grocery store)OTHER ELECTRIC UNDERSINK RO:All of the other ones i saw were kind of ugly compared to this one. I like the silver case of this one! I imagine similarly specced systems will perform comparably (and maybe even manufactured in the same factory for all I know).$200-$250 for 800 GPD seemed to be the sweet spot for price. I saw similarly specced (and worsely specced) systems going for $400-$1000...ELECTROLYTIC DEIONIZERS:--you can get a countertop electrolytic deionizer, but these types of systems cost $400-$1000000 or so, and the filters will need to be replaced more often. They do have an advantage in that they provide granular control of water pH. You can usually choose between deionized water and a handful of low and high pH settings, but be aware that the low pH settings will be produced mostly from Chlorine ions which have been split from sodium or calcium salts... So, it is up to you if you find this useful...For the record: for about 10 dollars, you can buy a USB powered electrolytic device which will convert a liter of salt water into a liter of bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite) in a few minutes... So if you need electrolytic chlorine for cleaning purposes, i would save $200- $999,809 or so and get one of those, instead...just saying.--CONCLUSION--It's good.

It’s VERY nice. Installed for about 10 days- LOVIN it!!
We’ve had this Installed for about 10 days- LOVIN it!! We are challenged at installing stuff, but it wasn’t horrible to get it in. We did do it ourselves. I love how it looks, works, how quiet it is (you CAN hear it working, but it’s not loud at all)! Very good water flow from the model I purchased. Better than the one I had previously gotten from Costco. I love the extra space I have under the sink for cleaning products too!!!

The water tastes great.
It is not as easy to install as previous reviews stated. It was accomplished by someone in a wheelchair 90% of the time. The water does taste great. All smell is gone. I would have given a 5 star review but the install was more difficult than stated and the instructions for measurement do not go into great detail.

Easy to install & fast flow
So far awesome. Easy installation (besides drilling my granite). Absolutely a plug n play unit. Was at 128 ppm before, now riding at 4 ppm. Impressive for the $

Two failed on me in a month
I had two of these and both failed within two weeks. Both would end up with the pump running non stop when you were not calling for water. No leaks...you could hear it flushing into the drain. I know it does a flush now and then but not for an hour or more running and running. Second I let go for an hour and half just so see..just kept running. Couldn't reset it by any method.
