Good performance, clean design
Got a few of these for periodic file backups (not for continuous connected use), I have had some uGreen adapters purchased previously that work well for me and these enclosures appear to be a similar device in a HDD enclosure case, so I was confident they'd work well - which they do. The plastic is light but well finished, and they were easy* to install and use.I did initially search for a case with a cooling fan, but good ones seem to be hard to come by so I took a chance these would be okay - there are vents on the underside that lead to the base of the installed drive, but not much of a channel for circulation to the top plate of the HDD, which is completely enclosed without vents when the lid is on. Having said that, I had a 1tb WD Black 7200rpm 3.5in drive in one, and copied 200gb of data to it on first use, the heat generated was not excessive, and you can at least use it with the lid off if you intend on prolonged grinding. My intended use is intermittent so I'm happy with the thermal performance for my purposes.A tip not covered in the booklet - the bay slot in these for your drive is slightly longer than a full size 3.5in drive, to allow you to insert the drive flat (NOT at an angle!) and push it forward to connect with the SATA connector. The lid then has a spacer at the end underside, that prevents any (unlikely) movement away from the connector into that extra installation space. If removing a drive, the foam pads on the sides do a good job of keeping the HDD in place, so it can be a bit daunting trying to get one out at first - the best method I found is to place the unit flat on a firm surface and insert fingernails on both sides of the top of the HDD at the connector end, and pull back towards you firmly to detach it - then you can lift it straight out. Don't be tempted to lift the back end first, for what should be obvious reasons ;)I didn't find mine loud, as others have, although I thought they would be as the plastic seems like it would be prone to resonance. The foam pads must be limiting vibration quite well as the fan in my laptop was far louder than the sounds coming from the HDD when in use, so no problem there for me at all.*It can require a bit of strength to slide the top off initially, but note that there are little indents underneath the lid to keep it firmly closed, close to the power switch end - if you grip the lid at that end to remove it, you will be making it harder to remove, grip it about halfway down the lid's length instead, and apply a gentle pressure to the top when sliding.Only nit I'd pick with it is trivial - the blue activity indicator on the top is lit from behind by a white LED, which can be visible through a tiny gap sometimes somewhat spoiling the effect. I did say it was trivial ;)

I'm happy with this even with the electronics removed
This is well made.It definitely powers on but I can't speak towards whether it actually works because it was meant to act as an external storage enclosure for an NVR but the NVR couldn't read the hard drive. I don't think this enclosure is to blame but rather the extra convertor cables I had to add on to connection, something might have gone wrong there. In the end I gutted this out, took out the electronics and made a gap to feed in internal wiring directly to the drive whilst it remained in the enclosure. I done this because even without the electronics, for me this would be the best non active 3.5 storage case that I have seen. My setup now works, and I have every confidence in the case protecting the hard drive outside of the NVR.I'd buy it again if I needed a single drive slot in an external enclosure. However, I will be looking and multiple drive slots next.

Does what it is supposed to do
Ideal for housing old TB drive as a back-up disk. Easy installation, good fit and separate power supply, so only needs to be switched on as needed. 4 stars, as I think these things are a little over priced. Overall quality is good.

Easy and works
Very easy to setup and install the drive into this enclosure.Don't be as dumb as me and ignore the instructions and completely miss the fact that the unit has a power button (I initially thought it wasn't working).Plug and play worked straight away with no issue.

Excellent Item
Excellent piece of kit. I simply plugged it in and away I went. Nothing to fault here.

Practical Hard Drive case.
I had a spare drive that was not being used, so I ordered this drive case which was really straight forward with no tools necessary. Once connected windows recognised the drive and I was up and running. Very simple to do and the transfer speeds are very good so this drive can be put to use as an extra backup device.

Handsome enclosure but beware of Windows formatting prompt
I bought a 1TB, 3.5" Seagate HDD at a car boot sale for £3. Luckily it worked and initially I used it with a generic HDD harness, which did the job but wasn't pretty, what with the unused connectors left dangling from short, untidy leads. Also it left the drive itself exposed. (Besides I usually use the harness to connect an internal optical drive to my laptop, so I needed it back.)I transferred the HDD to this handsome enclosure - which was laughably easy; no tools required - but found that Windows now wanted to format the drive. I've no idea why. In the end, I had no choice but to obey having by now shuffled the data I'd already loaded on to other drives (by temporarily reverting to the harness). Even then, for some reason Windows only gave me access to about an eighth of the full capacity; this problem I fixed by using the partition manager application to extend the one partition into the inexplicably unused space. This may be a problem with Seagate drives.Anyway, I now have a 1TB drive for about half the usual price. Even if the HDD breaks down, I can always use the enclosure with another HDD.I must say I find the enclosure exceedingly neat and appealing-looking; even the power/activity light is a pleasing colour and not obnoxiously bright (which makes a change these days; just because LEDs are bright and efficient doesn't mean they always have to be driven at their full brightness!).It does indeed work with USB 3.0; the transfer rate is much better than I'm used to.So, this is highly recommended but beware that Windows might make you format the drive once it's in the enclosure. Plan accordingly! Either start with a drive you want to format anyway or be prepared to take a back-up. Hopefully you won't have this problem at all.
