Love this item
Good quality and design, would be nice to have more details about RMF protection though.

This thing does not work. Save your money.
I tested this with a brand new EMF/RF meter and it is completely useless. I emailed them via the email on their website (homesta-store.com) and they replied with this email address : [email protected] does not exist.I might have been unlucky and received a mat that somehow contained no shielding material, but there are 2 reviews for their phone shielding pouches that also didn't work.Get an EMF/RF meter and test any products you buy.

Great flat surface! Sturdy and well-made! 😊
I work from home and do my work on my sofa. It means it's not good for my posture as I often have my iPad, mouse and phone etc to the side of me. This means I have to twist my body to use them, which isn't good. I'm also not able to use my mobile phone on a phone stand as the phone stand doesn't balance on my sofa. This means I suffer from hand strain a lot, as I make a lot of calls for work. 😔This EMF shielding laptop mat is perfect for my needs 🤩. I can now sit with my legs stretched out on the sofa with the mat on my legs. The mat fits my iPad Pro 12.9" in its case, my phone stand and my mouse mat. It's fabulous. I have a few phone stands and they all balance perfectly on the mat. This means I no longer have to use my hands for my phone. I can use the phone stand on the mat and use my stylus to dial numbers etc.The mat appears to be well-made and is very sturdy and lightweight. It is still strong enough for me to lift the mat with my items on it, without having to take them all off first.I can't comment on the EMF shielding claims but it is a decent thickness so I can't see why it wouldn't protect me from EMF and heat from my devices etc.I'm very happy that I ordered this EMF shielding mat. I feel like I've got my office on my lap now. I hope it lasts. I'll update my review if it doesn't. 😊

We actually tested the product
I am not prepared to give a qualitative review based solely upon the manufacturer's very convincing claims, which anybody could quote. I wanted to conduct an experiment to determine some quantitative data, in an effort to substantiate or challenge claims about the efficacy of this shielding mat.We used a GQ EMF 390 (EMF, EF & RF) meter as well as an F.W.Bell 4080 triaxial gaussmeter, taking several sets of readings in the vicinity of a (rather prone to overheating) Toshiba Satellite L300D. Readings were taken (1) without the laptop, to ascertain background, then (2) with the laptop on a wooden desk-top, then (3) on top of this shielding mat and also then (4) on top of a sheet of thin metal. Similar sets of readings were also taken in the vicinity of the AC adapter. Photos were taken but are not shown here, as the explanation and interpretation is more important. The report is that, apart from the fairly level and very low ambient background of EMF and RF, readings continually fluctuated, presumably according to changes in power being drawn. Often, the reading changed significantly between being observed and a photo being taken. The building background EMF is low, as all circuits are on spurs, deliberately to avoid the higher level of background EMF caused by having ring mains that will propagate around the building for any appliance on any socket on the ring main. A high EMF registers over 400mg very close to groups of active power distribution outlets, but typically less than 0.1 mg elsewherePERSONAL HEAT PROTECTIONIf your laptop gets hot, then this mat is certainly a good idea to protect you from that heat, if you have it on your lap.LAPTOP OVERHEATING PROTECTIONHowever, it did not stop the laptop from overheating and its thermal cut-out shutting it down, something which is cured by use of a multi-fan laptop cooling base. The attractive covering of the metal in the shielding mat is likely to restrict the ability of that metal acting as much of a heat sink.EMF PROTECTIONThe main EMF field was that at 60Hz (since we are in the UK with 60Hz mains frequency) and went from a background level of less than 0.1mg to 0.3mg near the laptop, and to 80mg when within 30cm of the ac adapter. Interestingly, these readings were fairly invariant as to whether or not the shielding mat or other metal sheet was in use. This would imply that the shielding mat is not made of much if any (expensive) mu-metal and does not therefore provide significant emf protection. Bear in mind that as far as emf risks are concerned, readings taken along the pavements of city streets (under which electricity distribution cables often run) have typically registered emf of between 100mg & 50mg at heights of between 1m and 1.5m, i.e. at the level of the brains of children and genitalia of adults. Those levels are recommended as not good for long time exposure.RFComments are made here, even though claims about any RF protection are not made for this product. The RF was mainly from WIFI and cordless phones, but distant cellular mast signals were also detected. The readings varied between 3.4 and 6.8 mW per square metre, compared with around 500 close to a WIFI router or a cordless phone or cellphone / mobile phone. The generally-regarded danger levels are above 10,000 mW per square metre.Placing this shielding mat between the router and a close proximity meter eliminated the pick-up of RF from the router, with readings dropping to the ambient background of around 4mW per square metre. This suggests that the shielding mat is actually an effective RF shield, but only, of course, if it is between you and any source of RF.CONCLUSIONOne of the often-quoted health problems that are connected with laptop use is the risk of burns caused by heat from the laptop. I rate this shielding mat as an effective means of eliminating that risk.As far as protecting a laptop from overheating, my findings would suggest otherwise and that a multi-fan cooling base would be better.Regarding EMF dangers, the ac adapter emits a higher level of EMF than the laptop, so keeping that away from oneself is a good idea. Also, adapters often get much hotter than laptops. The laptop EMF levels are relatively low and less significant than a burst of use of an electric hair dryer, typically belting out at 150mg within a few inches of the human brain. Long exposure above 100mg is not considered desirable.

Does what it says
This laptop mat is well made, from ‘vegan leather’ an EMF absorbing mesh, and aluminium plate for strength. These are no areas of poor finishing, and it looks very nice overall. This pad serves two main purposes; a rigid mat with heat-shielding properties (i.e. to stop it burning your thighs) and an EMF / RF blocker. It succeeds in both those areas. I can use my hot-running laptop fine for hours using this mat, with no toasted legs. In terms of EMF, it does hugely reduce the RF radiation of anything you hold it in front of. This will of course include your legs. Now, of course, whether EMF/RF from a laptop actually has any negative effects is extremely debatable. The energy output is actually tiny compared to lots of other items in your house which you are exposed to every day. Heating devices, anything with a motor, mobile phones, transformers (those power-bricks you get with lots of electronics), all of these put out the same or often many times more than your average laptop. Current government health advice does not consider this sort of radiation dangerous unless it is hundreds or thousands of times stronger than the output of a household device. However, if you feel the need to block that RF from your thighs then this will do the job, as well as keeping you a bit cooler. It does what it says, and has a nice build quality, so it gets four stars.
