A great film & a good film
This two DVD set includes the classic 70s 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory' musical and the 2005 Tim Burton adaption 'Charlie & the Chocolate Factory'.It is no exaggeration of say that 1971’s 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory' is one of my all-time favourite live action film musicals. The film has truly wonderful songs, some genially funny moments throughout and some good performances by everyone involved, especially the late great Gene Wilder who gives a beautifully eccentric performance as the master chocolatier Willy Wonka himself. As would be expected from an early seventies film, the special effects are rather primitive by today’s standards but they still have a charm all to themselves and result in a colourful film. The 2005 Tim Burton 'Charlie & the Chocolate Factory' is an extremely different film to the 70’s musical being beautifully stylish but somewhat lacking in substance, like a number of Tim Burton’s other recent movies. This isn’t to say that this version of the film isn’t entertaining as it has many great scenes, some good performances and a superb soundtrack (while not as good as those in the original, the Oompa-Loompa songs in this version are still fun to watch and listen to). The performances of everyone involved in the film are good but I must say that I thought David Kelly did a particularly fine job as Grandpa Joe and Deep Roy was brilliant as all the Oompa-Loompas. Johnny Dep does a relatively good job of portraying the extremely eccentric and childlike Wonka himself while Helena Bonham-Carter is utterly underused as Charlie’s mother, being little more than a cameo really. My favourite parts of the film itself are the flashbacks that enhance Wonka’s past and introduce his dentist father (played by the late great Christopher Lee). This is all part of the greater focus that the film puts on Wonka himself than on Charlie, something that generally works but does leave the title character unfortunately a little underdeveloped.Overall both the films included in this two disc set are entertaining in their own way with the 70’s musical easily being worth a full five stars while the Tim Burton adaption is probably worth a low four.

Wilder, or Depp? BOTH, please!
Most people would agree that remakes are usually worse than the originals. Alfie and The Italian Job are cases in point. Both those and this Tim Burton's re-imagined revamp of the 1971 Gene Wilder classic 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory' are not mere remakes but different films entirely, with just the basic plot-line that's constant. They are, too, of course, for different generations, with stars indelibly stamped for that age group. When I, as a mere lad, lapped up Gene Wilder, I had no idea who he was except for being Mr Willy Wonka himself. That's how kids see things and Johnny Depp, likewise, is Willy Wonka for the noughties. Now to the box-set, well, the 2 disc set to describe it more accurately, in mine, the DVD case came in an outer card sleeve , with the discs inside held on either side. There was no booklet or any insert. Extras, according to the back of the case are almost none, which will not please some. In Willy Wonka, you do get the film in French and Dutch as well, hearing impaired for English and Italian viewers and subtitles in 9 various other languages. Charlie And..., however doesn't have any subtitles except for English hard of hearing and Audio Descripted and Dobly surround sound. I'm not into DVD extras, so have simply copied the above from the case, I haven't tried any.Is it worth buying? Well, you can get the two films separately for less, especially second hand. But, it's always nice to get two such movies together in one neat box, whether you're a parent who wants to keep them safe and undamaged or for us older lot who simply enjoys them but want to keep the clutter down. There's also no denying that the set would make a lovely present, whereas two DVDs in separate boxes, much less so.

Does not play on US or Canadian made DVD players!
I feel ripped off, this does not play on any of our DVD players. As I found out later by going back to the ad I found further down on the sale page this notation of "will not play on most DVDs made or sold in the US or Canada". In my opinion this should not be be able to be sold on an American website, if it cant be played on American DVD players. I would not even give this 1 star, but I had to per the website. I feel that this should be labeled better in the title.

My heart broke!
Today August 19th 2019 was Willie Wonka day at my nursing home facility. Everyone was so excited to make a Wonka bar and watch the movie. The chocolate came out amazing but when it came time for the movie it didnt work in the work dvd player. So I brought it home real quick to check my dvd player and nothing! It said "wrong region". Very upset.

Region what?
I don't like that I can't play the DVDs in Canada because it's the wrong region apparently. That should be a warning before people purchase.
