al629 is nice and easy to use
The media could not be loaded. Compared to the scan tool I was previously using, al629 is nice and easy to use, works well on my car. This tool can read and erase DTCs for ABS, SRS, Engine and Transmission. Only take few minutes to scan and clear the codes. In short, it’s a low-cost code reader with a high-end capabilities and coverage.

I can't imagine the devices that cost twice as much are any better
This is from the perspective of a novice.I was having to troubleshoot SRS system issues. Absolutely wonderful device got the codes (which my normal reader couldn't), and I got to the bottom of a problem with the clock spring, which was disconnecting the steering wheel airbag. I promise you it's amateur hour over here whenever I'm working on cars, so if I could figure it out, anybody can use it. The clock spring repair itself was more challenging :-DI have only a little experience fixing cars, but I'd like to inform any true first-timers that you can get a reader that does most stuff for $10 and they work EXCELLENT. I had to upgrade because I needed codes specific to my manufacturer for the SRS system (airbags, etc.), which isn't the most common reason for lights to come on. If you have a basic 'check engine' situation, this is overkill. EVERYONE should have at least the basic $10 reader though. As I understand it, and based on my experience, you don't need to buy a subscription unless you end up with a newer car than the year your reader was produced or expect to use it on the cars of others. If you drive beaters like me, you can just use this out of the box for however long your car lasts, and maybe the next one depending how old it is. Expecting ten years before I need to update.

Useless toy
Autel AL629 is completely useless and this production description is totally misleading. Says that it covers almost every vehicle? What a joke. Check out the KIA coverage. 2014 Kia Soul. Nope. In fact, so Soul model after 2011 is in the database! Browsing other KIA models, they have poor coverage also. And yes, I did the updates using the Autel software. And I called Autel, and while the customer service was American representatives, two different guys were next to worthless. Finally the second guy found a document that listed all of the KIA models covered by the AL629 and confirmed that 2011 is the most recent year coverage for the Soul model. Subsequently, I also found that same document buried in the Autel website.Honestly, this is the most falsely advertised product that I come across for a LONG time. Autel should be shamed to advertise their product as having broad coverage, when the coverage is actually PATHETIC. In fact, I will take it a step further -- their should be a drop down menu to select YEAR, MAKE and MODEL of your car(s) and coverage should be verified so that the customer KNOWS what they are buying. No wonder this product is under deep discount vs its original price. The AL629 is not worth a Hamilton, and Autel should be castigated for their gross misrepresentation of ACTUAL vehicle coverage. When you dont cover Kia Soul models since 2011, your coverage is ***PATHETIC.***

Great Scanner.
Had a 2008 Pontiac Torrent with ABS, Stabilitrak and Traction Control warning lights on. Used this to find out which wheel had the problem. It was both passenger front and passenger rear. I was going to try just replacing ABS sensors first, but this scanner read that the amplitude for the sensors were below minimum specs. So hubs needed to be replaced. Replaced both hubs (which came with new sensors) and ABS, Stabilitrak and Traction Control function properly now. This thing saved me a lot of time and money.

Good not Great
Works well with Chevy Tahoe. Not a big fan of the update process requiring the removal of the SD card but, that’s really the only complaint. I’m sure there’s better for the price

Easy to use; powerful
I had bought the AL629 after failing with the cheaper AL319 which was unable to read seatbelt and airbag codes. The AL629 is dramatically better: Sturdy, great manual, great carrying case and especially easy to use. It was easy to read the error code on the rare intermittent problem I have having with airbag sensor on a VW 2007 beetle and to reset it.

A tool every home mechanic needs
I've been looking for a tool to clear an SRS light that I triggered when I removed my seats for deep cleaning. There are pressure sensor & seatbelt connectors under the seat, and if you disconnect any of them while the main battery is connected it will trigger the SRS warning light on the instrument cluster.Unlike less expensive models, this unit read my VIN automatically, which is great because using arrow keys to type it in every single time is unnecessarily annoying. This unit found stored codes I never even knew existed & cleared them effortlessly. Tested on a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT Auto & a 2008 Kia Optima 2.4L.By the way if you are comparing Autel models, the ones that start with ML are for the European market, and the ones that start with AL are for the American market (where the car was first sold, not made). It might not make a difference for engine codes, but for ABS & SRS codes you really want the correct one.

SRS tool reset tool
One of our cars had been involved in a head on collision (2010 Chevy Malibu). After rebuilding the front end (Plastic pieces ;) ) we noticed the SRS lamp was activated. 2 seat belts were locked. During the removal the passenger seat belt unlocked and looked operational. I sent in the driver side seat belt in for repair. Once I received the repaired seat belt I reinstalled it. the SRS lamp was still activated. Didn't want to pay a mechanic to find out what was causing the issue. Purchased the above item and identified the original SRS sensors that failed. I cleared the SRS errors and only the passenger seat belt appeared. I now know what to do to get this vehicle fully safe again thanks to this device. A must own for any home mechanic!
