Made it a lot easier
For a maple syrup hobbiest like me, this really made the process much more precise, and I ended up with good results.

Good but low quality
Works perfectly fine, but feels cheap in your hand. Which, of course it does, because it's cheap.

Required for making decent spirits! Just make sure you use it properly.
First, this is not a beer/juice refractometer - that's a different refractometer. This is for spirits. Here's how to use this correctly: first, adjust the eye focus so you can read the numbers sharply. Then use the dropper to take some of your spirit, place it flat on the window and make sure you get the window pretty wet! You want it flat so it doesn't slide off. Then close the flap and the liquid underneath should be an obvious dark blob. If it isn't, add some more! Now hold it up towards a bright light (sun works great) and you should see an obvious sharp line between the dark top and bottom white and that's your alcohol %. If it's blurry, then press down a bit on the flap, make sure you're looking directly at a bright energy source, and then maybe adjust the focus. Then make sure you wipe both the window and flap after each use, and make sure you give the dropper a good cleaning with soap and water or acetone after every day you use it. Otherwise you will get nasty mold growing in the dropper. And that's not the fault of this product, it's just because you left something sugary in it.This is vital when you're distilling - you want to check every single jar ('cut') and check the ABV. You'll generally see 80% to start with, then dropping slowly (or in jerks) down to 40%, and once it gets well below 40% you're done. Also vital when you're blending, because then you can check the 'finished' blend and decide whether you need or want to dilute it with some water to get to about 45-50%. And you can't tell without this. Some people say they can, but a very smooth 65% is a lot more mellow than a harsh 45% and I've seen them guess spectacularly wrong. So just get this and you can use it forever.

Quality instrument, nice protective case.
So far so good. Arrived timely, seems to be a good quality instrument. I like the plastic storage case it came with. The print in the instructions could a larger and more thorough. With assistance of reading glasses, I am happy with both seller and the purchase. I think the refractometer will make it easier to achieve a positive, fine, final product.

Doesn't read properly & No Return Policy
Bought this Junk hoping it would work for measuring the alc % in the brews I was making, followed instructions to calibrate with water to 0, and then I grabbed my same room temp brew and attempted to measure the alc% inwhich this thing says its over 80% which is not possible. Its physically impossible for mead thats been sitting in my pantry for less than 1 week to of produced 80% alcohol. This thing is inaccurate as all can be.There is no return policy and this junk DOES NOT work.If there was even an option to return or replace it I'd be slightly happier to retry however im not wasting my money to retry this paperweight.
