This book (and community) were recommend to me by a former colleague, and I can credit it with getting me back on my feet and landing a new role. Like many others who have left reviews, I was unexpectedly impacted by a layoff and was feeling lost and demoralized, as well as intimidated by a job search process that I hadn’t been through in nearly a decade. This book provided the structure and focus that I needed to move forward, and it’s written in a way that makes it easy to understand. The steps are logical, and they encourage you to reflect on your strengths as well as dig deep to understand what is important to you and why. Perhaps most importantly, the approach helps you counter self-deprecating thoughts and lean on others; the hardest part of a job search isn’t the act of searching, but rather the emotional toll that it takes on you. Phyl understands this, and the exercises, approaches, and Job Search Councils (JSC) are designed to help you build (or rebuild) confidence and set you up for success.The Never Search Alone community is what really makes this book powerful, though - it’s completely free, and it allows you to put what you read into practice with people in similar situations. Very good experience from reading the book to joining a Job Search Council. My JSC provided emotional support and positive community. The organization of the JSC is impeccable. I'm pretty organized but the structure to lead as a moderator is amazing. I'm stealing some of the ideas from listening tour to lead other groups.

Never Search Alone is a powerful pedagogy which is all at once, so simple and straightforward, while meaty, challenging and very worth while. I found myself saying "well, that is obvious" at the end of each chapter, and then extremely challenged when I sat down to do the work outlined in each chapter.This book should be paired with membership in a Job Search Council, and this organization pairs you into one of these groups FOR FREE.It is more than a book, it is a movement!
