Great starter board
ASUS Prime Z790M-Plus LGA 1700: Micro ATX Marvel (with a Few Minor Quirks)Overall Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsFor: Budget-conscious builders, performance enthusiasts, Intel 12th & 13th Gen usersAgainst: No RGB lighting, limited expansion slots for a micro ATX boardPerformance: 5 out of 5 starsThe ASUS Prime Z790M-Plus punches above its weight when it comes to performance. It effortlessly handles Intel's 12th and 13th Gen CPUs, thanks to its robust 10+1 DrMOS power delivery and PCIe 5.0 support. I paired it with a Core i7-13700K and saw blazing-fast speeds in both gaming and productivity tasks. The included BIOS is user-friendly and offers plenty of overclocking and tweaking options for enthusiasts.Features: 4.5 out of 5 starsThis motherboard packs a surprising number of features into its micro ATX form factor. You get three M.2 slots, including one with PCIe 5.0 bandwidth, along with ample USB ports (including USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C) and Gigabit LAN. For LAN-challenged environments, ASUS even throws in Thunderbolt 4 support (requires additional purchase of PCIe card). While there's no RGB lighting, the sleek black and grey design looks understated and professional.Value: 5 out of 5 starsFor the price, the ASUS Prime Z790M-Plus delivers incredible value. It offers premium performance, a solid feature set, and reliable build quality. If you're building a micro ATX gaming or productivity PC with an Intel 12th or 13th Gen CPU, it's hard to beat this motherboard at this price point.Things to Consider:Limited expansion slots: Due to its size, the Z790M-Plus only has two PCIe x16 slots and three PCIe x1 slots. For users who need a lot of expansion cards, a full ATX board might be a better choice. No RGB lighting: If you're into flashy builds, you'll need to add your own RGB strips or choose a different motherboard.BIOS fan: Some users might find the BIOS fan a bit noisy. However, it can be easily adjusted or disabled in the BIOS settings.Final Verdict:The ASUS Prime Z790M-Plus is a fantastic micro ATX motherboard that offers outstanding performance, value, and features. While it lacks some bells and whistles like RGB lighting and more expansion slots, its strengths far outweigh its minor drawbacks. If you're looking for a reliable and versatile platform for your Intel 12th or 13th Gen build, the Prime Z790M-Plus is a top contender.Note:This review is based on my own experience using the ASUS Prime Z790M-Plus for several weeks. Your results may vary.Feel free to adapt and personalize this review to your own experience and preferences. It works very well. No problems at all.
I have several of these and they all have worked perfectly. I start with default settings as I do with all motherboards. After boot up I do any updates on the board that are needed. I then adjust the settings depending on what I have on the board. The board is fast and works well.

No CD for Drivers. Network card not native to Windows 11
Not a board for novices. A Windows 11 installation has no drivers for the network card. You have to do a Shift and F10 to get a command prompt, type in control panel, go to System and Device Manager. Then add the driver obtained from the website and extract it to a flash drive to install the driver. Windows 11 will not proceed with the installation without a network connection. After you finally get booted up, there are several drivers not available from the Asus website. Then you have to install Amory Crate which takes about 15 minutes and then use the tool to install the missing drivers. Then uninstall Armory Crate. This is the first motherboard that I have ever purchased that didn't come with a driver CD. They should ship with a flash drive with all of the needed drivers including the network card driver needed during the Windows 11 installation. I've built at least 500 computers in my business.
