Good picks for the price
I purchased the picks to clean various caliber pistols and long guns. They're not the strongest material, but for the price ($4.80) they're a good bargain. They're easily strong enough to clean off any parts that have been pre-soaked. I think if you need anything stronger than this, you should clean your guns more often or just use more Hoppes/CLP.UPDATE: one year later and they still work great. I use them almost once a week and no picks have broken or damaged any firearm. Great purchase.

Super Cheap... But handy!!!
I bought these as kind of throw away brushes and picks to use in a pinch at the range. Definitely NOT a primary cleaning kit... But I got them as an add on item to get the $35 minimum next day delivery with Prime. They are ultra cheap and will fray and fall apart quickly, but i expected that so i wasn't surprised. I also use the picks for all kinds of odd jobs...

Ready when you are.
These are the types of tools you may never need, but are irreplaceable when you do nee them. As advertised, I use them to either brush out hard-to reach places, or to push a cotton patch. I do not think there is a right or wrong method. Not unlike all of those doo dads on your dentist's tray - if you need it, then it's here.Note, these are not a rigid plastic, but have some flex. I find that to be useful.

Good plastic picks and brushes; Sino-based alternatives made of inferior plastic that breaks
Bought a Sino-sourced set of these same cloned brushes, but their lack of durability was obvious once I got this Lyman kit. Had to buy in first place, due to one pick breaking off in my hand whilst doing a task, and this Lyman did much better, bending slightly rather than breaking as moulds are slightly beefier than the Sino-no-name. Would buy again...

The brushes are good. But the picks- ...not so much.
The plastic bristle brush and the abrasive metal brush work great for working built up carbon off of a gun, when used with a good solvent like hopes no. 9 (or something comparable.) My only real complaints are that all of the other pick tools are very bendy, and therefore, are useless against getting any sort of purchase against those stubborn carbon deposits. I understand that it's designed to not mar the firearm's finish, but it can't go to the opposite side of the spectrum to where it's too gentle on whatever you're picking at, if that makes any sense. A toothpick is literally more effective than any of the picks included in this kit.
