The ad says SMA-male, is it actually a male antenna?

Seems to be some bad answers and confusion here on what an SMA Male antenna actually looks like. Male refers to the center pin, not the threads. In the center of this antenna's connector you will see a small male pin. This makes it a male. I have added this video to help others understand what type of connector this mates to. The threaded fitting which is part of the radio has a hole in the center, this makes that part of the radio a female connection. So the male pin on the antenna mates to the female hole portion of the radio, making a male to female connection. Recap: (1) If a pin is present in the center, it's a male. (2) If a hole is present in the center, it's a female. Don't think of plumbing parts when you are dealing with radio connections and you will have no issues. Just remember at least one of the two above.

Will this antenna work with a Yaesu FT-270?

This is actually a 'female' connection, so I would say no.

This antenna is male. You need a female antenna. Any brand will work as long as it is female on the antenna.
