Original review:The box has no company name, website or other contact details printed on it. The only mention of any technical support in the documentation is to email [email protected] but they never responded after 3 emails. This is a very old unit that is still being sold (the documentation even referenced Mac OS 9) - I was attracted by the faster read/write speeds it specifies but I never found it to perform any faster than a drive I bought back in 2011 [edit: see my updates below]. I ended up returning it.2022.0817 Updated Review:MthsTec reached out to me after my original review and mentioned that the customer support email address included in the documentation was for their supplier, not them. MthsTec has taken positive steps to remedy the situation and also went the extra mile by providing me with a new complimentary unit for the trouble I was put through. I believe they have fully redeemed themselves and I have updated my rating to 5 stars. Here is the most recent email from them:"We have updated the description to inform customers that the speed of operation is related to the file type and size. We are describing the highest achievable operating speed.We also contacted the supplier to revise the email address on the instruction manual and sent an after-sales email to each customer.This is a newly developed product, and it is the first time we have encountered such a problem. Looking forward to hearing from you soon."2022.0826 Update:In my initial review I mentioned that the time to rip a DVD was similar to what I had been used to with my old Apple Superdrive. I'm now thinking that was because the DVD I tried must have had some scratches etc. or perhaps the drive was faulty. The replacement unit I was sent is significantly faster. For the same machine (M1 Mac mini) and same DVD the USB-powered Superdrive rip time is 24:10 and the mains powered MthsTec drive rip time is 7:50. That's an amazing difference and I believe this MthsTec drive is likely the fastest optical drive out there!

When it first arrived I couldn't get the sound to come thru when I played a Dvd or BD. after a little research I found that when I installed the drive it change my sound software for some reason and so I had to find the correct Realtek driver and redownloaded and installed it. After this was done everything worked great. Love the drive and would recommend it to anyone who needs an external drive with many great features.

I bought this for my daughter and it is great. She has now a cd player and bluray player, plus she can record her gameplay on an extra HDD on it.

It would be useful to hold down papers in a windy environment. The pc recognizes the player but won't do anything with it. I've poked around for an hour and nothing gets it working. No media player can find it. Zero documentation beyond how to hook it up, not even a website to go to for a .pdf

I gave this a 5 Star rating although when I took the MthsTec player out of the Box there was a loose small piece of plastic on the inside of the MthsTec player that rattled around. I opened the CD/BR tray and it fell out. It worked without problems so far.MthsTec 4 in 1 External Blu-ray Drive is not plug and play Blue/rays.I downloaded a 3rd party blue ray software. I am enjoying watching movies on it. The storage access on top works great for Sata and SDD no issues there.

Highly recommend this product. Since I don’t have PC and only own two laptops without CD driver, it was annoying when I couldn’t read CD and DVD content or install CD based software. So I considered getting a hardware accessory component for reading DVD and CD and luckily purchased this unique drive to rip Blu-ray and DVD disks. It is really amazing, as it has a variety of functions, Blu-ray burner & hard drive docking station & fast charger & 3.0 Hub, all the function performs well. I used it to charge my smart phone, the charging speed is fast. It is also very convenient to read your external HDD.Thanks to the Ac adaptor with DC 12v power in, this is the fast external Blu-ray drive I have even seen.As described, it has a hard aluminum alloy shell, so it is very solid. I think this is more durable than other plastic ones, though it is a little heavy, but as a desktop optical drive, you don't need to move it a lot, so I'm okay with that.All in all, very happy with this good design product. I recommend it.
