Yes the flashlight works. The battery goes in at the top where lightbulb is. It requires a AA battery.

Q: Is the casing waterproof?

Yes, it is waterproof, the material of case is plastic and with black foam inside the case. 100% water repellent. Good waterproof performance, can float on the water, Shockproof by 3mm PE inner lining.( Can't soak in the water or it will leak)
