Excellent. Now I can plug my headphones into the S/PDIF port of my PC.
I got this because I wanted to connect my headphones to my PC using the high-quality digital S/PDIF port. The analogue audio sockets on my motherboard are really noisy. I have tried plugging various headsets and speakers into the front and rear ports but I always get an irritating bleeping and whistling noise in the background which seems to be caused by poor screening or grounding inside the PC. The digital port is much better quality, and is completely separate from the PC so I shouldn't have the same issue. And I don't. This DAC works perfectly and does exactly what I wanted. I plugged the optical cable between the DAC and the rear optical port on the PC, plugged the USB power lead into a spare USB socket and my headphones into the headphone socket.Top Tip: If the supplied optical Toslink cable doesn't seem to want to fit in the sockets properly, it's probably because you haven't taken the protective caps off the ends of the cable. Ask me how I know this... Astonishingly, the cable (and DAC) worked perfectly with the caps in place!I set the digital S/PDIF port as the audio output in Windows and put the headphones on. At first I wondered if it was working, as there was zero background noise. No hiss, no buzzing. It's definitely working! And really loud...On my PC the Windows Volume Control does affect the level coming out of the DAC. This is a huge win, as I use special software to correct the EQ of my studio headphones to get a neutral frequency response for music editing and mastering. I also use DTS Spatial sound when gaming, which also works perfectly through the DAC.The overall result with spatial sound and EQ correction is really impressive, and there is no trace of the interference I was getting with the analogue ports. As an added bonus, the DAC also has stereo phono-out sockets, so I can connect the DAC to a mini amp, or through my patchbay and into the nearfield monitors of my home studio.I'm very happy with this DAC. It's doing exactly what I need it to do. It only cost a tenner, so I really can't complain.

Does the job!
The rca output on my cd player does not workbut the optical output does. This was bought to connect the cd player to the amp. This does the job and works out cheaper than sorting out the rca output issue!Appears to be well made and a doddle to set up.The sound quality is pretty good.

Suprisingly Good!
Bought this 2CH version to connect a tv optical output to an older HiFi audio amplifier.Arrived nicely packed and looks nicely made too.Works really well with a clean sound and no extraneous noises.Brilliant value for money even though requires a power supply and phono leads.Be aware not best solution for headphones only use

Just what i needed
I am using this DAC to drive some VU meters from an Rpi 3 computer via a separate interface. So I have no idea how it sounds, its sound quality or how loud it can go with headphones. It works well off a 5V power supply which was handy and was easy to install being small and of regular shape. I couldn't have asked for much more for the price really. Even the red led is useful to see that power is on!

No good for headphones without volume control
As above no volume control blew my ears off with headphones

Amazing DAC for the money
I needed this as my streamer wasn't working other than with a coaxial output, a fabulous solution and the sound is still stunning i.e. no loss of audio quality... highly recommended

Rescued my Sennheiser HDR180 headphones
After purchasing a new Sony Bravia XR55X90K TV (2022 model) I soon realised there was no built in headphone jack to use my wireless Sennheiser HDR 180s which are great for watching movies on an evening without disturbing the neighbours. I also didn't want to lose them to obsolescence just yet as they were quite expensive several years ago. Cue this little DAC convertor to the rescue. It uses one of the TVs usb ports for power and connects for sound via a digital Toslink cable to the TV. I have the device hidden behind the screen and can now just plug the headphone base station into it and the headphones work flawlessly. Very pleased with this little gadget, great value for money and saved me having to buy new headphones.
