SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE PREVIOUS ONE I HAD.
I had one of those big heavy spot welders from China, had tuns of copper in it and a big transformer.it made thunk every time I welded. I needed a foot peddle to make the weld and often times could not find it blind, so I had to take my eyes off what I was doing. It weighed almost 20lbs. the cables were short and stiff, it had two levers hanging off that were spring loaded with electrodes on it. to get a good weld I sometimes had to lift it up. after one weld it started blinking and beeping at me and I sometimes had to reset it by turning it on and off.Why am I telling you all this? To illustrate that it A) took me way to long to move on to this Welder and B) how happy I did. the settings work, you can set the time it takes to fire the "jolt after it has made good contact. the welds are clean, not charred burn holes alternating with welds that would come apart. So here the welds are consistent. You need not plug it in, and its a lb or two, no more. takes up the space of 3 slices of toast, and is just a pleasure to use. If you guessed wrong wit the settings just weld it again, but the starting values they give you are a good place to start. Its a 5 star buy, Kinda rare on amazon these days.

Great little spot welder.
As soon as I saw this I thought, “What? A battery powered spot welder??? How can that be??” Then it hit me. This is just a car jump starter with a circuit to dump those hundreds of amps for maybe a tenth of a second. That’s all a spot welder is. Very clever. When I read the reviews to evaluate it, I was concerned to read that it sometimes burns clean through the tin strip rather than welding it on. Others said you have to lay the electrodes on very gently. Having had a lot of experience with conventional steel spot welders, the first thing that came to my mind was that the current was set too high, or the tin strip is way too thin, or the pulse is too long. When I saw it work in video reviews, the pulse duration (the only thing you can’t adjust) looked right so I decided to go ahead and get one. The description didn’t give the thickness or purity of the included strips (it turns out it’s 0.10mm) so also ordered some 0.15mm thick pure tin strips at the same time knowing that this is the material of choice for building battery packs. It arrived with about a ¾ charge so I dove in and started experimenting. It has 8 different gears, with 10 fine tuning steps in each gear, which Is Chenglish for power levels and I started on 2. I grabbed an old coin cell and welded one of the 0.15mm strips I bought with it. I pressed firmly with the electrodes, it sparked, but it barely stuck to the battery. I bumped it into 3rd “gear” and tried again. It stuck a lot better but could still be pulled off. I kicked it up to 4, again pressed very firmly with the electrodes, and it stuck down tight. It didn’t burn a hole in the tin strip, and when I pulled it HARD to force it loose, it left two holes in the tin strip. PERFECT. This is a good spot weld. I repeated this a few times with the same results. Curious about how it would do with thicker base metal, I tried it a few times on a piece of 14 gauge sheet I had on the bench. It welded a tin strip to it perfectly. Some observations:For a good spot weld, you should be able to hold your electrodes down firmly to flatten the strip without burning through. I suspect those having that problem should back the power down. When I used the thinner strips included, it knocked a pretty good divot in it. I had to back the power down.I never felt the need to “fine tune” the power levels higher or lower. 1 through 8 proved to be plenty of adjustment. It’s got plenty of power to weld thick, pure tin strips. Go for it.

Powerful enough for steel core or very thin nickel only
Adjusting my review to more stars because the bad impression is from unmet expectations of its strength rather than a fault with the tool itself. They don't specify the limitations on strip thickness/composition to use with this unit. The nickel strip it comes with is actually plated steel. When I tried it out at first with that, it worked well, and my first impression was good. Once I figured out the strip it came with was steel, I switched to a roll of pure nickel strip I had ordered separately because the current draw I need from my battery pack demands it. (For a power tool battery)This welder can't handle 0.15mm thick pure nickel reliably. I could barely get connections to hold on the 0.15 and 0.20 was impossible. I'm guessing 0.10 is probably the max thickness this thing can do well, but I don't have anything that thin on hand.If you're doing very low current battery packs ONLY that are ok with very thin nickel or with the steel core stuff, then I suppose it's good enough for that - but frankly I wouldn't bother getting this welder at all as you'll bump into its limitations pretty quickly in your electronics journey.

Won't hold a charge
I bought this about 15 months ago. It initially worked fine, but after using it a few times I didn't need it for a while and it sat on my desk for a few months. It was fully charged but when I went to use it again it was empty. It seemed to have a hard time charging at first, but once it started charging it was fine again that weekend. It sat on my desk untouched for about a year at that point, and when I went to use it again it was completely dead. Plugging it in it shows low battery for a moment before it swaps to saying full battery and doesn't charge. Trying to turn it on while plugged in just says low battery. After two days of being plugged in charging it still doesn't seem to have any charge.

Second Time's A Charm
The first unit I received had a solid connector. Without the relief cuts, the connector does not fit into its port. After contacting Amazon support I was sent a new unit. I asked the seller if I had to send the original unit back, but they said to keep it. Overall, for a Chinese company, I am impressed with their customer service. As far as the product:PROS:-Small and easily portable-It charged completely in a few hours-Very simple interface-Welds hold very wellCONS:-None that I have found so farOverall, this is a decent little device that does what it says for a decent price. Definitely read the manual though, as I had to use Yandex to translate the screen for an error message, but the language select button is detailed in the manual.
