Easy Installation - Well Made Product.
The rudder installed in minutes and had a firm grip on the motor shaft. I had to cut off the top 2" of the rudder with fine hacksaw blade. This cut was just above the top clamp. This permitted me to raise the motor to my ideal height. Be advised that I am using trolling motor on a 17ft canoe and run the motor closer to the motor mount than most applications would. This modification went very smoothly. I sanded the cut with sandpaper to break the sharp edge. The results are ideal for the canoe. The canoe tracking and handling under power are greatly improved.

Kayak with only motor drifted aimlessly.
I would give it five stars, but I haven’t had it in the water yet. Installation was great. I put it on a Newport NK 180 Pro, and the clips fit perfectly. I trimmed a little off the corner (small end) of the rudder, and it mated right up to the motor. This install on my kayak is still in the trial-and-error phase, so I am still getting it all dialed in. I had the motor mounted too shallow. I was getting some cavitation, especially in reverse. I had to move the motor deeper to install the rudder, so that worked out fine. Now I’m waiting for the weather to warm back up so I can go back and try it all out. Before the NK 180 Pro install, I had a rudder on the back of my kayak. When the motor wasn’t running, I had no control over how my kayak drifted. Hopefully, now I will be able to control my drift as before.

Must have for side mounted trolling motor
I added a side trolling motor to my Kayak, I knew it wasn't an optimal placement but seen other people do it so I gave it a try. It was terrible, tracking was lopsided, turns were dangerous, and could only turn left and not right, I had put a time and money adding the mount and was going to end up spending more to make this work but somehow ended up finding this simple yet awesome attachment rudder. Was very quick and easy to install, did add some extra tape since the rod on my watersnake 24lbs was on the thinner side, also had to flip the rudder upside down. Once on the water it completely tamed the trolling motor. Was tracking straight, turns were smooth and was actually able to turn right which was impossible before and left with ease. This saved me a lot of headache, time and money also had a blast at the lake finally. Best $30 i've ever spent.

Holy crap... it actually does work!
Well, count me as one of the ones surprised that this hunk of plastic actually works! I have a 30# thrust trolling motor on a 14 foot canoe that does a great job -- unless the wind is blowing or I'm on a body of water with any kind of current. I bought this rudder with the thought that keeping the canoe going generally in the desired direction couldn't be any worse than without it.Wow, was I surprised!! I took this out on a large stream (more of a river...) on a day that was a bit windy and the water had a few ripples. I've had this set up (canoe, motor) for 15+ years and know how it'll react -- but when I turned on the trolling motor, turned it more than a quarter turn, I quickly went around in a circle!!! Without the rudder, I would have barely turned. No more over-compensating (or at least not as much) for the current. I was able to go almost straight. Not sure if maybe I'm imagining it, but it seemed like my trolling motor battery lasted longer, too. I can usually get 8 hours on a charge. We were out 6 hours and I still had 2/3 charge left.Great purchase - believe the positive reviews!

Holy #$@%, it DOES work!
I'm going to be yet another "can't believe this thing actually works" review. I was definitely skeptical, but given all the reviews I decided to give it a go. I use my trolling motor on the back of my 12' aluminum v-bottom and have been using it more as a slow-speed maneuvering motor than a true trolling motor just because I couldn't keep a consistent heading to save my life. The motor sits in the back-right corner next to my outboard, so steering was always an exercise in chaos. I figured even if this thing helped a bit it might be worth it. What I DIDN'T expect was for it to COMPLETELY change the way the boat handled. I can actually troll in a straight line now! It makes maneuvering at slow speeds and near the boat launch a lot easier and I was finally actually able to troll for bass for a solid hour with only minor course corrections between casts. I can't believe it made that much of a difference, but damn if it didn't.
