Macintosh Compatible
I use Blu Ray drives in all my Macs from G4 to Mac Pro.This allows me to store huge amounts of data on one disc. (up to 128 GB)Thing is... none of these Blu Ray drives run at 24x Read Speed.I am generally not the person who cares about speed but most of my application software is on DVD and I use DVD more than I use Blu Ray.This DVD drive along with its Plextor cousins I use really do save a substantial amount of time.No doubt there will come a day when Blu Ray drives read DVD's at 24x, but until then...This DVD drive is a good choice for Mac.This DVD drive is a replacement and upgrade to the Apple SuperDrive.

Needed one
Arrived on time in good condition. Bought actually two of them to replace a dying DVD reader and an worn out DVD writer. Compared a lot of units and these units to be fairly high on other sites that had reviews on this model of DVD writer. They installed fairly easily and in a short amount of time. Both of them worked right off the bat both in DVD reading and writing. The old DVD writer was a pioneer and lasted 8yrs. I decided this model and so far there doing great and would recommend them to others to purchase!

We have amazing results using Pioneer disk drives...
We purchase CD's and DVD's 600 at a time. All are not burned on these burners, but the number of burns these drive do is higher than the average done by most computers. We noticed years ago we were getting better service from Pioneer drives than other brands. We don't buy new computers, we just upgrade and rebuild using existing cases. New drives are required when the cabling between the motherboard and drives change. I have a stack of good used drives with the old interface.

Terrible drive. Plays okay, but does not burn any discs. The new Asus works great I replaced this with.

I thought it would be great to have a 24X burner
I thought it would be great to have a 24X burner, but it was slower than the Dell factory burner in my 2013 XPS8700 with 24 GB DDR3 and 3.4 GH processor (iE7 4th Generation)!! Spent 2 days ruining Sony DVD-R dvd's that failed to burn anywhere from 12% to 70%!! Ruined about 12 discs trying to figure out what was wrong?? This was time consuming and irritating. The slow factory multi-dvd unit that came with my pc made this one look bad (and it is pretty slow)!!:( Have an Optiarc 16X in the other bay and it runs and burns great. Thought I would upgrade, but boy, what a mistake. I am pretty sure this Pioneer unit has some sort of defect!! I even tried to burn at 6X onto a 16X Sony DVD-R and it still "Failed to Burn" Abrupt ending to Media - -whatever that meant?? Copying a DVD was slower burning on this 24X than the factory installed one which I think is an 8X or 12X unit??Returning it tomorrow morning {Amazon was great about that} Thank heavens!! Might give them one more shot, just in case it was defective!! I have burned a lot of discs, but never with the trouble and fails this unit had. I am Running Windows 8!!FYI: The old drives in my 2000 Dell 4300 with Windows XP still burn dvd's in 1/3 to 1/2 the time. Not sure if these SATA drives are an improvement, or a cheap way to get by???? Not too impressed (SATA) with the experiences I have had!!

pioneer drives are great
i have used a lot of drives in my computing life. one might think they are all the same, they are not. i get significantly better performance from my pioneer drives than others enough to make me solely want to use pioneer from now on and this latest drive, a replacement for an under-performing asus, really hits the point home.
