Q: why do the boring bars face different directions? i dont know why you would want that unless you spin the chuck CCW

Many of the older lathes would feed and turn in both directions, also cutting right hand threads

Q: Why does it list the threading insert as 16er ag60 when it is actually 11er ag60?

I noticed that to, probably a misprint, I reground mine to fit my thread guage. You should always check a thread cutting tool with your guage.

Q: What is the purpose of the 16mm shank holder or how would you use that with a 12mm setup?

I believe it is to achieve a stronger more rigid set up. I had to cut the shank down in one direction to fit my tool post
