What is the size of the leg footprint (or the width of the tubing)?

I believe that can be found in the item description.

Will this eork for a sink that's in the corner?

I don't see why it wouldn't as you would adjust the width to that of the sink. As long as you have the height space.

It stops with about 3 inches overlap and won't expand all the way. Am i missing something?

The assembly instructions state that :the maximum adjustable length is when the metal button is fully exposed". You might notice there's a button that pops out on the back bars when you reach this point. This is because there needs to be some overlap in the halves of the back and front bars for strength. Also, if you expand past this, there would be a gap between the left and right halves of the shelves, and items could drop down through the gap.
