Q: I have my 5th wheel trailer at a seasonal campsite. Can this unit be positioned outside for "city water" hookup to feed the trailer with soft water?

We place our water softener outside the motorhome between the water source and the city water connection. Weather seems to have no affect on the softener. During freezing conditions we put the water softener in the bin where water connection are.

Q: I only use my RV 4-6 times a year,so the softner would be sitting unhooked for months at a time. How can I safely store it between trips?

I would think so, but not 100% sure. Many motor home owners use these and they are stored between trips.

Q: does this unit recharge with table salt...?

Yep...just use a box of table salt per recharge

Q: I have a very large 500 gallon hot tub. Is this large enough for that?

This will do about 325 to 375 gallons depending on the hardness of your water. So it would help... or you can take 15 minutes and recharge the softener, and then finish filling the tub. That wouldn't be hard to do.
