POR-15 Top Coat Paint, Direct to Metal Paint, Long-term Sheen and Color Retention, 32 Fluid Ounces, Safety Red

I purchased the POR-15 paint to cover an new gate I designed and built out of steel tubing. I found the paint tends to run in cooler temperatures. A higher temperature results in no runs or drips. The paint was dry in about a day. It will cure over time. This paint is safety red so it sticks out. Also the paint provides a very durable surface that resists physical abrasion. You can sand it but is is gummy. This paint is used by restoration experts to encapsulate metals and prevent corrosion. You must use a reparator in an enclosed environment as the chemicals are injurious to breath. I recommend this paint for exterior metals.

Used on Resto of 65 El Camino (LS) This is exceptional paint, when used to directions, it is most durable paint. Lots of solids, dense coating. Better applied with brush. Self leveling, dries glossy, shiny. Will not rust. I replaced floor pans and coated with this paint. Did not want to add sound deadner or carpet, because it turned out so pretty. Have used POR 15 many times and will continue. Always use it under my cars, as it lasts and simple power wash has my cars continue to look new underneath. Most durable paint.JoeKalamazoo

I bought this for aluminum wheels. It went on smooth with good shine.The application instructions are for POR primer and do not apply to this top coat. After a day I applied Dupont clear (urethane) and the top coat raised and wrinkled. I had to bead blast the mess off two wheels.I called POR and they said clear should be OK and to wait a week for recoat. I clear-tested the wheels after 10 days. The paint three weeks old was OK. The ten day paint lifted and wrinkled again. The paint is delicate and scored if bumped with my fingernail while Scotchbrighting prior to clear coat. Top Coat is not durable like the POR primer. BTW you can not use petroleum based wax/grease remover on Top Coat, it wipes off. jim

Product is great bought a few gallons of black in the past got some for plow this time they put it in mail box for day an half in 15 degree weather very thick an hard to use

used other por15 paints and they are durable and hold up to abuse from my past experience

Only time will tell about the durability otherwise it goes on thickish and has as much pigment as I have seen in this type paint.Update: This paint is useless for outdoor applications. It offered no UV protection and minimal rust protection. Started fading after 6 months.

I mixed in some valspar enamel hardener, spayed HVLP. Went on easy, seems very strong.

Too thick to paint on with a brush. After my attempt I found lots of similar reviews. The POR15 black base is awesome but this just didn’t work
