They sent me a defective roaster
Folks, I am writing this not out of malice, but because I feel it is a necessary service to others looking at this roaster. I ordered a 1 pound stainless steel profile model from the factory, and it came in it's shipping box with no visible damage a couple of weeks ago. Now keep this in mind as you read the following: Sonofresco is supposed to test each of these machines out including doing test roasts. I unpacked the machine, set it up with a full tank of propane, and proceeded to roast some Burundi. The only thing this did was toss the beans, but there was no heat.SO in troubleshooting this, I used a different regulator hose that I know works (it came from my drum roaster), and I ruled that out.SO I took off the side panel to see if the gas toggle was off, and it was set on. The relay which energizes the spark for the burner was laying on the roaster floor however. Sonofresco who called me back the following Monday, told me it must have popped off or something during transit, but it does not take a rocket scientist to see this holds no water. The plastic black housing the relay is in, has a tab to secure it on the solenoid assembly, and it was not broken. In fact it fitted quite snug just it was supposed to when I put it on. No amount of jostling would have caused that to pop off.So now the CEO is involved, and I sent him video to document the lack of spark and a picture of that relay sitting on the floor of the roaster. I am supposed to get a RAM module at the end of the day today. The roaster is easy enough to operate on, but that is not an issue. This is supposed to be working right out of the box, and there is no way this could have had a test roast done on it, because these defects would have been found. Less mechanically inclined people would have demanded an RMA. If this RAM module does not work, that will be my next step.UPDATE: I am not going to waste anymore time troubleshooting a machine that I should not have had to troubleshoot to begin with. I replaced the RAM, and while it did show a spark after doing so, it still remains that I could set the green coffee in the winter sun and they will get more heat than this roaster provides. The roaster is boxed up again in it's original Sonofresco approved packaging with everything including their flyer and Roast magazine. I have sent an e-mail to the CEO asking for an RMA and a refund stating my reasons, and my desire to never do business with them again after this experience. I am hoping that they act honorably in this matter.

Good Roaster for the Money in my opinion
I didn't buy here through Amazon, but from manufacturer direct.I purchased this to use in small commercial applicationHere are my results in using it.2 years and no issues if you keep the sensor cleaned as directed.Hundreds of pounds roasted so far and very consistant roasting results if I watch over roasting process determining stop point.Seems to be acceptably consistant when letting the machine decide everything by the numbers, but prefer manual intervention.Keep roasting chamber clean, so beans move freely without friction of build-up for more even roast.I have run up to number 9 and no issues, just dark roast to very dark depending on beans.Typical roasting number when first used it was around 5-6 depending on beans.Never had a fire with it.Yes you could create a fire if you roasted dark and turned machine off and let beans set without starting a cooldown, but that would be stupid!Simple to use where anyone can be instructed to use it.You can't walk away while roasting and you can't do that while roasting on any automatic machine to ensure safety!Always plan to have a fire and what you would do if you did. Have a metal can with snug lid nearby to dump beans and cover with lid and most important "Just Don't Panic!"Bad point I found is cool down cycle is too slow. There is too much heat built up in machine, so I dump beans into cooling system after I hear first or second crack is complete or darkness I am shooting for or flavor depending on beans. In the beginning I let beans cool in machine during its cooldown cycle and it works, just have to adjust to what you want in the end and slower cooling defeats the rapid rise in heat followed by quick cooldown so you are not baking as to roasting. Basically try number 5 or 6 and see what the end result is for that bean and if good, use that number for that bean and bag. Moisture content on another bag could vary and cause different results on same number, so alway check first batch. Same thing with different beans like Columbian versus Brasil. One might be 5 and the other 7 for the same darkness. It is probably not the best roaster and it is not the worst. Price them and for the price it seems OK considering you are doing a pound at a time. It takes up little space on the counter and is gas burner as to electric burner. Good entry level and I started smaller in the beginning. For now I have no issues and enjoy using it. Easy to maintain and so far reliable. I made some mechanical modifications after warrenty expired and I plan to add an electronic one and use a computer to control roasting. I will outgrow it and not sure if I will just add more machines to roast more if needed. I like that I custom roast each pound and don't have to roast 5 pounds and hope someone will buy the remaining 4 pounds of certain origin roasted bean at certain darkness. To sum it up "No issues for my machine and I would buy again and probably will get more for increased volume!"Time for a cup of fresh roasted coffee!By the way, fresh roasted to me is roasted, cooled, dumped in vacuum sealed bag and allowed to age in vacuum that becomes non vacuum due to beans releasing gas! Then it is ready to brew a great cup of coffee!Granite State Coffee

So easy a 5 yr old could use it.
I'll make this short and sweet. I have been roasting for 11 years. This was the first machine I used. Since that time I've had hands on drum roasters and other gear as well. If you are catching fire to your shop... You are a clown. This machine is easy to use, even for clowns. I have one at home and it's like butter. I can drink a different varietal every day and I roasted it just for me. Do not pay attention to the clown shoe who tried to burn their shop down. They should also be advised to stay away from hair dryers and microwaves. (sorry to be a hater, I just couldn't believe my eyes when I read that crazy review ).To wrap it all up...if you want to roast coffee and want it to be easy, this is the way to go. Also, I have delt with the customer support team and they ROCK THE HOUSE. Solid, knowledgable folk...also, they sell green coffee too.
