Worked fantastic for me! Naturally level 3 dark brown hair with some greys
I have naturally level 3 dark brown hair with a little grey. It's also very oily so I wash/condition it every day with an Italian-made, small batch, sulfate-free shampoo/conditioner set. My hair is 3 inches past my shoulders, naturally pin-straight, sleek, and fine but I have a lot of hair and it's extremely healthy - never been dyed and I use heat sparingly. It took half the jar to do my entire head. Purple For Brunettes is highly pigmented and a gorgeous, deep plump purple in the container. I adore the scent, too - it's a fresh sort of lemon-tea tree kind of scent and it lasts on the hair. I personally adore it but if you're sensitive to scents, you might have trouble. The product is thick and I recommend sectioning the heck out of your hair and starting from the roots, moving downward. You absolutely need to wear gloves, cover surfaces with old towels or clothes you don't mind getting stained, and use one of those dye applicator brushes you see in salons to help get at tricky areas. I had a hard time combing it through my hair but I attribute that to newbie error and not a fault of the product.I got some on my ears and hairline/neck but a little rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad you'd use to remove makeup plus a bit of scrubbing (just a teeny bit) worked well to remove the dye. My hands and nails got a little tinted when I was rinsing out the dye but that went away with some extra scrubbing with Dawn -- just make sure to moisturize your hands afterwards! After rinsing and adding some heat protectant spray, I dried my hair and then used my flatiron to put a slight curl in the ends for some movement. The color payoff was noticeable even on my super dark hair -- this product will NOT lighten your hair. In fact, it made my hair look a half-shade darker which I freaking LOVE. It also dyed my grey hairs to a mix of amethyst and deep magenta -- warm and bright without any brass undertones. My hair was so soft, silky, conditioned without being weighed down and I'm so happy I went with this product. Absolutely zero damage to my virgin hair. The bleed is real, though. I'm not taking any stars off for it as I knew it would happen and went into this with realistic expectations of what I would achieve since this is a color depositing conditioner and not a permanent or semi/demi dye. It bleeds daily and the effect of the purple for me was dimmed by day 5. Just something to be aware of. However, I'm good with that as I like that I can play with color without risking damage.FWIW: I got the Purple For Brunettes conditioner from oVertone, as well, and that's doing a good job at helping me keep some purple in my hair.Overall: I love this product and will keep buying it until I get sick of it. I personally think it's perfect for naturally dark brunettes who want to play with purple without a huge commitment AND who have realistic expectations for a purple tint that's noticeable in the light rather than a 180 degree change to their hair color.

Pleasantly Surprised!
I bought this because I recently decided to go brunette again, and espresso was closest to my natural color. My hair was already showing brassy undertones from the bleach and it was bugging me.I glopped this on, and yes it really does stain everything even counter tops (nothing the Pink stuff can’t handle). I was worried it would turn out looking patchy like box dye can when you don’t go the full 9 using paint brushes.Likely it’s because I’m adding onto an already dark color, but it turned out great :) the brassy is toned, my hair is a shade darker once more. I left it in for double the time because I forgot to set a timer. I also did not shampoo it out, because it directed to rinse with warm water only, so I’ll update after a few washes.Edit: in the end I permanently dyed my hair, but this probably lasted about 2 to 3 weeks each depending on how often I washed. I think it’s good for in between dying to save money for a little while, but basically it costed nearly a tub a month to maintain. Not terrible, but definitely not sustainable in the long run because the amount of money spent would equate to getting the hair dyed permanently. However, I do recommend for trying a new color or going darker without fully committing to permanent color although this is still very pigmented, so I can’t attest to it washing out fully since I was going dark in the first place.

Not as vibrant as expected but left hair soft, shiny, and healthy with a nice tint
First attempt ever trying to dye my hair on my own. Overall, pretty good experience! Usually I get it done in a salon and usually get balayage / highlights but I wanted to try out and see how I liked lilac purple with a semi permanent temporary tint before committing to paying hundreds of dollars for it. I definitely could’ve left it on a bit longer, but I wanted to play on the safe side. Still, I was thinking it would’ve turned out a bit more vibrant but you can still pretty clearly see the light purple stands where I had bright blonde highlights. It didn't affect my natural/virgin hair as much, just kind of acted like a cool toner. I sprayed my hair with a bit of water to help blend it in even though it said to apply to dry hair, so maybe that made a different in how much pigment my hair actually absorbed. Not sure how long it will last, but it was pretty easy and wasn’t too messy of an experience. It smells minty like others have mentioned, and made my hair really soft and shiny. Love that it’s cruelty free and gentle ingredients. I used about half the whole jar and will likely use the rest to touch it up.
