Quick and simple
I bought pre made pasty. Short for the bottom and puff for the top. I used readymade pie filling from M&S. the pies come out crispy and golden on the top, no soggy bottom, evenly cooked throughout. A tip is to shape the pastry on an upside down glass first, then put into our maker. This will also lessen your chances of burning yourself. Helps to evenly distribute the pastry, no creases, perfect! East to clean after, just wipe with soft soapy sponge once cooled. (The base and lid cutter is also supplied)

Crispy tasty pies!....and other things too.
I love a kitchen gadget and couldn't resist this little beauty. It makes the most delicious pies with all round crispness. Easy instructions, there is a cutty out thing for the base and the top so you can't go wrong with sizes.I put the pastry in the cold machine and turned it on for 25 minutes, and they are perfect. I then did a quiche, again put it in cold and I also put the filling in, didn't bother par cooking the pastry as it would be overcooked. Perfect. Not just for pies though, I then did a quick frylight spray and plopped the egg in with a teaspoon of water, boom! perfect egg.I follow a keto diet and I have made almond pastry quiche and again, perfect!Love this little gadget! Saves heating a whole oven for a small amount so saves money too. There isn't a recipe leaflet included, but really you don't need one. Make or buy your favourite pastry, fill it and cook it. Done.Pies. 25 minsQuiche 20 minsEgg. 3 minsTop tip..... Make sure your pastry is thin enough.Another top tip. Make a lift out strip with non stick paper although they do tip out easily.

Why did I not get one before?
Why have I never owned a pie maker before? I really don't know. Idly trawling through youtube, as one does, I hit upon a couple of videos about pie makers. I was intrigued enough to do a bit of research, and found the name Schallen. Well, as fortune would have it Amazon had this on offer at the time, which represented a saving of around a tenner. My research had flagged these as being a good make. It arrived in a couple of days and right out of the box I was impressed. Solid, lovely deep dishes, and the ceramic coating looked good. Within a couple of hours I had it wiped down, pastry made, cases cut to size with the provided cutter. Pies made. Tucking into a lovely minced beef and onion pie. OK not he most exciting filling, but it's what I had. It was ridiculously easy. The coating is great, totally non stick so far. Only made a dozen or so pies so far, including open top tarts and sweet pies. This gadget is a game changer for me. Now experimenting with pastries and fillings. What with this and the air fryer what more does an every day cook need. I love it, and great value. Solid construction. I will update after a few months use. But for now, if you are considering a pie maker, just do it.

Great pie maker, but has issues.
This pie maker works well. However, the case is not sealed and the grease from cooking the pies leaks down into the base of the unit. There seems to have been some sort of attempt at making grease traps, but even if these DID trap all the grease, there's no way of actually emptying them without taking the unit apart. As you can see by the photos, after just four uses, a significant amount of grease had leaked into the base, where one of the heating elements is. This would eventually build up to a point where it would get considerably hot, which isn't good. In addition, where the hinge is, there is already visible wear on the heatproof sleeving around the cable. This is obviously a weak point which needs addressing. Yes I've invalidated my warranty to show these photos, but I think folks thinking of buying one of these need to know the issues. The sad thing is, 50p worth of silicone gaskets and a bit of thought with the cable routing would have made this little unit perfect - so near, yet so far. I'm going to seal this one with some high temperature silicone, sort the wiring out and hopefully make some more pies. Please take note of my points though.
