A YES choice!
It's hard to care about myself! But this book is helping me to understand this path, as well as how easy it is to NOT. Glad I have it and I keep trying to make time to actually read it (which requires me making time for myself) Definitely a worthy investment and read!

Vital resource!
Kristin Neff's "Fierce Self-Compassion" is a vital resource for anyone navigating the tumultuous path of deconstructing from harmful high-control religions. Neff, renowned for her pioneering work on self-compassion, delves deep into the concept of self-compassion not merely as a soft, nurturing force but as a powerful, assertive stance essential for personal growth and resilience.### Understanding Fierce Self-CompassionNeff differentiates between two forms of self-compassion: the gentle, nurturing aspect that involves self-soothing and self-care, and the fierce, protective aspect that involves taking action to alleviate suffering, standing up for oneself, and drawing boundaries. For those emerging from controlling religious environments, this distinction is crucial. The process of deconstruction often involves confronting deep-seated fears, guilt, and shame imposed by these religions. Neff’s framework empowers individuals to balance tenderness with strength, ensuring that their journey is both healing and empowering.### Addressing Religious Trauma"Fierce Self-Compassion" provides practical tools for addressing religious trauma. High-control religions often instill a sense of unworthiness and fear of punishment, making self-compassion a foreign concept. Neff's exercises and reflections guide readers through acknowledging their pain, validating their experiences, and cultivating a sense of inner strength. This approach is particularly beneficial for individuals who have been conditioned to suppress their needs and feelings in favor of religious dogma.### Empowering Personal GrowthNeff’s book emphasizes the importance of setting boundaries and asserting oneself—skills often underdeveloped in those who have lived under rigid religious control. The concept of fierce self-compassion encourages individuals to reclaim their autonomy, make decisions that align with their true selves, and resist external pressures to conform. For those deconstructing, this message is both liberating and transformative, providing a roadmap to rebuild their lives on their terms.### Integrating Self-Compassion PracticesNeff includes numerous practical exercises designed to integrate self-compassion into daily life. These practices are particularly valuable for individuals recovering from high-control religious environments, as they often struggle with self-criticism and doubt. By consistently applying these techniques, readers can gradually rewire their thought patterns, fostering a more compassionate and assertive mindset.### Conclusion"Fierce Self-Compassion" is an essential read for anyone deconstructing from a harmful high-control religion. Kristin Neff’s profound insights and practical tools offer a pathway to healing, self-empowerment, and personal growth. Her dual focus on nurturing and fierce self-compassion equips readers with the resilience and courage needed to navigate their journey and reclaim their lives. This book is a beacon of hope and strength, illuminating the way for those seeking freedom and authenticity after leaving controlling religious environments.

Worth reading.
Recommend. On another note: baffled about Dr. Neff's choice of wording when describing how a young lady was preyed on by an older man. "He took her virginity," she said several times. Is this still a phrase we use with a straight face? How can it be? Especially for an educated feminist? So problematic. Also, would truly love to know why she chose that particular phrasing.

Game changer
This book is a game changer. Especially for women. I listen to my audio book almost everyday. I repeat chapters to make those uplifting words become a default in my head. The narrator is PERFECT.It’s quite intense book and a paper copy is a must as there are exercises to be done to evaluate oneself.I recommend this book to anyone who is a chronic people pleaser.

Outstanding With One Major Flaw
I would strongly recommend this book to each and every woman. This is a seminal work and does an absolutely superb job of illuminating the path out of the systemic suppression of women within our society. I had loved Dr. Neff's previous book on Self-Compassion, and purchased this for my wife, since it dealt with women's issues. Then I started reading it... Through that reading, I identified with many of the psychological issues expressed, even as a man, and I also understood at a much deeper level, the sociological pressures placed on women. So, the major flaw is that this book is NOT just for women, as it's title/sub-title might suggest. I would encourage any man who seeks to support their wife, daughter, or friend to read and introspectively analyze how we, as men, contribute in perpetuating the problem.Awesome job, Dr. Neff!!!

So powerful, it's impacting multiple generations!
Your book and message is SO powerful, Kristin! You are helping so many people. Your work bringing to light the incredible value of self compassion has had one of the biggest impacts on my life. Learning that it’s not self indulgent to be compassionate with ourselves and that doing so helps us heal, which helps us enjoy life more is truly transformational. Now, my college age kids are reaping the benefits of my learning from you. They talk about being kind and compassionate with themselves, which is thrilling to me! My 20 year old daughter even projects the concept into her pet bearded dragon! “He’s practicing some self care right now, by burrowing into the soft blanket.” That’s how you know it sunk in!! So THANK YOU!!🙏🏻 You’ve given me and my children the gift that keeps giving:)💜💛💙
