Fights Light Sensitivity and Delivers Crisp Colors
I needed to up my sunglasses game and decided to pick up these Holbrooks with the Prizm Sapphire Iridium Polarized lenses, and I’m honestly impressed. I know these come in a lot of different colors and lens types but I am really happy with this combination. The matte black frame is nice looking yet subdued and the blue-purple lens has this color-shifting effect in the light that really catches the eye. The lenses are also my favorite colors too, which is a bonus as it fits perfectly with my style. They’re amazing for helping with my light sensitivity, and while wearing these I can look straight toward bright sunlight without flinching in pain. Here’s my breakdown:Light Sensitivity: With other sunglasses, I’d still squint in bright light, but with these, it’s like my eyes are wearing a shield. No squinting or wincing at all, even on sunny cloudless days. The polarized lenses block reflections, so I don’t get that harsh glare off surfaces, and I can clearly see through water. The lenses are rated at 12% light transmission, and I feel like my eyes notice the benefit instantly when putting them on.Clarity & Vibrance: Colors look way more vivid. When I put these on, the lens technology just makes everything "pop". Even basic colors—greens, blues, reds—have this depth that feels clear and rich. I love looking at my lawn with them because it looks so green and vibrant - even when its not. These are perfect for driving or outdoor activities, especially since they’re designed for medium to bright light. I use them for daily driving, being out at the beach, or even playing catch in the yard with my kids.Comfort & Build: They’re sturdy but lightweight. No issues with slipping or pressure on the nose or ears, which I’ve had with other sunglasses. I've warn them for several hours out at my kids for a recent soccer tournament and they were so comfortable I was almost able to forget I had them on. The design also works well for wider face shapes; they sit right without squeezing. I have a fairly wide face and I have had other glasses looked small or awkward. These fit nicely and provide full coverage with a large field of view.Included Case: They came with a soft case and cloth, which is nice for travel, so I can avoid any scratches in my bag. The lenses are so pretty I really baby them to take care of them. I find these to be a nice build quality but I wouldn't consider any set of sunglasses to be highly durable. So far the lenses have held up well and have managed to keep them scratch free - so with the right care I believe they will hold up and last. They’re not the cheapest, but the quality and the performance have been well worth it, especially with how much they’ve helped with light sensitivity. Besides my concerns and OCD of taking care of these I have no regrets with them at all!

For fishing, this is my favorite color, also good for general sunglasses.
My favorite fishing and driving/general use lens color and a good all-around frame together.

Good but expensive
Mmmmm, this particular pair of Oakleys is a perfectly good pair of sunglasses at a premium price that aren’t any better than a less expensive but good quality pair from another name brand. I’m happy with them. Don’t take this as a complaint that you shouldn’t buy them. But I won’t spend this amount of money for another pair if something happens to these. The Costco sunglasses these replaced were just as good. With all the buzz around Oakley I expected something more.

Oakley has finally heeded our cries for the Holbrook's bigger brother!
Big headed brethren, rejoice! After years and years of asking for it, the Holbrook XL is FINALLY here. Not to be confused with the Holbrook LX (the premium version of the Holbrook), the XL finally provides enough coverage for those with wider measurements. These glasses are new enough that the product description doesn't offer much, but I can tell you measurements are 59-18-137I ordered the matte black, which like other plastic frame options from Oakley (including the Sliver XL, the only similar alternative before this release), is an absolute grease magnet. The decorative rivets and the signature O don't feel any different from the regular Holbrook, but I'm hoping that with the newest generation, they hold up to some more abuse. In my experience, Holbrooks are plenty durable with the exception of the decorative rivets--and even in cases where they don't break, a scratch or scuff doesn't go unnoticed in the corners, especially with contrasting color schemes. My everyday pair of glasses prior to buying these were some Smith Lowdown XL's in matte black. While the Holbrook gets plenty of style points in my book, it continues to trail behind the Smiths in not having a cushion or grip by the bridge of the glasses. I don't have a prominent nose, so the Holbrooks have a tendency to slide down my face, especially during strenuous activity or exercise. The Smiths have a hydrophobic pad that help keep the glasses in place, while the Holbrook only has more plastic frame. The Holbrook XL doesn't wrap the face as tightly as the Smiths, which is a positive in my book. Rapid temperature changes don't result in fogging as much as they do with the Smith Lowdown XL's just because there is a bit more room to breathe. Fitment behind the temples and ears is great.Be warned, while the lens description for my pair said Warm Gray, they definitely trend heavy on the rose-colored end, more-so than many of the Oakleys I've had in the past, though that could be perception because of the increased surface area of lens you're getting. Build quality is solid, with no flex in the hinges.Big thanks to Oakley for recognizing the need for this line-- with such an iconic and classic look and feel, I'm really looking forward to seeing my collection of Holbrook XL's grow!
