This floor grate is great!!!
Ok, so much for my little pun…heeheehee. Maybe grate isn’t what they call these anymore, I guess “register” is the more proper name (but when I was a kid we called them floor grates). I don’t know why I didn’t think to search for this thing years ago. We've lived in a mobile home for the past 9 years and I have gone through so many floor registers in my kitchen I can't even count. The duct work / heat vents run through the entire mobile home in a line...which falls right in a very inconvenient spot in my kitchen. It's right between my stove and sink and it's the path that everyone walks on. So, the floor register gets stepped on all.the.time. There's nothing I can do to prevent people from stepping on it. I admit I've done it myself. There have been several times my own heel has pressed down on those old floor registers and as quick as a wink there's broken pieces. So I’ve been guilty of it too. A few months ago, after replacing that register AGAIN, I was thinking why can't there be a floor register that's made of something really strong....like steel. I looked on Amazon and found this cast iron pewter floor register. Wow...I thought this would be perfect. I was worried though, because the floor opening in the mobile home is 4.25" wide and this said it's 4". I e-mailed the company and asked if they thought there would be a problem with the fit. They just basically said that the 4X12 is for a 4X12 opening, Ok But they also said if it didn’t fit I could return it. So, I took a chance. It fits just fine. Be aware that it doesn't sit flush to the floor like the old grates I've had...it sticks up. I worried this would be a problem. I thought for sure I'd hear complaints from my husband or kids that they've tripped on it or stubbed a toe....I thought maybe I would too. Nope. No complaints so far, and it’s been several months. It’s dark too, so I wonder if that actually helps. Previous floor registers I’ve had have been either white, cream, or tan and blend in with the floor. This one is dark and you kind of see it out of the corner (or bottom, LOL) of your eye…so maybe we just step over it now…I don’t know. Anyway, I love it because there's no possibility of this thing breaking when someone steps on it. I know it's going to last for many many years, if not forever. If you are in a similar situation and you have a floor register in a high traffic area that gets stepped on and broken often, give this a try.

Accord deserves accolades!
Accord’s cast iron floor register met and exceeded expectations. We’ve had several floor registers in this particular spot over the years, it is directly placed in the corner of the kitchen and has been frustrating to say the least; Recently, plexiglass covering the hole was our last resort. This floor register has been in my saved cart for a little over a year now and finally decided to go ahead and order, and I am very glad I did!Probably every brand and type of floor register has been attempted in the spot, but they’re all so cheaply made that they either bend ridiculously or simply break. This one was obvious from the time the box was opened and although it is not heavy it is most definitely heavier than anything tried before and 100x more sturdy. An additional plus is that it was packaged well and included a packing slip, both rare with my Amazon orders. We highly recommend, especially for such a great price- hoping to install them in every room.

Heavy duty
Just got it and it fit right in place. Very sturdy and heavy. I ordered this for the cast iron longevity vs the cheap tin or plastic registers that just don't last. Looks great. The vent I used this on being in front of the refrigerator and the vent that was replaced was dented, rusted, broken etc. That being said, the damper underneath that's built-in to this register is the same type of tin material. With drops and spills from the refrigerator (kids) I'm sure it'll be quick to rust out, but the top iron material will outlast natural childhood destruction.I read another review that said the damper is difficult to open from the top by the thumb tab and easy to move the fins from the bottom. This is true so make sure you set it to your desired width of openness and leave it there. It can be done with a strong enough pull but, I don't need to block the airflow in my case. It is easy to close, though.

YES. These are awesome. Worth the price for high traffic areas.
YES. These are awesome. Worth the price for high traffic areas – I was hesitant to spend what seems like a ridiculous amount of money on something so unimportant, I debated it alot, but I only replaced 2 floor vents in my house, only in the high traffic areas, the others are fine, out of the way. The best price for cast iron I suppose. I had steel ones that were rusting and bent/broke underneath weight of people over the past 17 years, so this was pretty much the best idea. I also purchased some vent traps (netting that you place beneath to catch debris) and it is a great solution. These 2 locations are very visible, right next to doors. Not only are they so solid, with the traps, I no longer can see down into the ducts, which looks significantly better. Great quality, looks great, heavy, should last a long time. Highly recommend.

Outstanding purchase
Reviewing Accord AMFRPWM410 Floor Register with Marquis Design. These are heavy duty cast iron tops with a nice finish and a sheet metal damper box below. I paid $25.40 for these and found them to be the best value of anything else I've seen. Being that they are cast iron, the tops are thick, so they stick up from the floor a bit - maybe 1/4". I like that but if you're looking for something almost flush, these are not for you. Plastic damper boxes are junk so I didn't consider anything with that. If you're having issues with rusting damper boxes, you need to insulate the vent box under the floor so it stops having condensation which is causing the rust. These are awesome registers and I will be using them to replace the other 20 registers in my house.
