For anyone who is interested in motorcycle Vlogging or simply recording their thoughts on personal movie footage, this is a must-have. I spent hours looking at videos of vlogging setups for motorcycle helmets and found that most looked ridiculous with all kinds of homemade attachments taped and wired to crash helmets. , I have a Hero8 in the media mod sitting on my helmet and a 3.4mm mic plugged into it and running into my helmet (no wind noise). If the GoPro battery gets low I can run a cable from the media mod to a power bank in my jacket pocket and carry on recording for hours. When I am finished filming I plug a micro HDMI lead between the media mod and my TV and watch and listen to myself immediately. Expensive but made up for by the ease of use and no need for cobbling a load of odds and ends together

As you'd expect, it consumes power so will reduce the operating time of your gopro.HDMI output useful for monitoring image or playback or connecting up as webcam, though some latency introduced depending on your video capture device. There is an app to use gopro as webcam but still in its infancy and not dependable yet.Allow connection of separate mic that could be stereo besides the built-in mic.I think if you plan to use this "in the field" you should consider a spare battery or how much running time you require.

I use this for voice recording while using my GoPro Hero 8 on a motorcycle helmet.. It is well made, and fits securely to the camera.

Ok, so I've waited for this for a while to be able to plug in an external mic for a portable vlog setup. The directional mic and the extra ports are great but the whole design is terrible. Let me explain why - to install it, the cover for the battery needs to be removed and whatever clamp accessory needs to be removed as well from the bottom of the camera. Next step, slide the media mod onto the camera. Next step, mount your go pro tripod/quick release plate. It's quite a bit to do. So, now imagine needing to swap the battery. You need to unmount your camera, remove the thumb screw and then remove the media mod in order to be able to switch the battery. Very cumbersome design!Unfortunately the alternatives are not great - the older USB C mic adapter costs almost as much as the media mod and it's cumbersome, but at least it's easy to swap out the battery.So, the new features are great (and honestly I see no reason why they couldn't at least include a 3.5mm port on the body), but the design is one of the least user friendly that I have experienced in dealing with camera gear.

The media mod was ok whilst it lasted but has now ceased to charge the gopro any more, very poor quality

Changed the way I use my GoPro hero 8. Fantastic mod a little expensive in my opinion but quality is really good. Be aware that if you use the media mod you GoPro will not be waterproof.
